Does Anyone Still Have a House Phone ?And Do You Still Use It ?

Ask a Question

I was wondering if anyone at LD has a house phone ? Do you still use it ? Not many people have them now. I think everyone just uses their mobile phones

Yes, we do and we do still use it. We do have mobile phones but they are very basic and don't connect to the internet. They are solely to take when we go out in the car so that we could call for help if we breakdown.

Leannexxx yes I was the same I had one for years and it didn't get used and was paying for it I think you had to take it to get Internet at one point you couldn't afford to use them as everyone has mobiles and it would cost a fortune to phone them thanks for your comment 😊

kate1310 The landline is the only phone we use. The mobile's are PAYG and I think we have used maybe £30 between us in the last 5 years, although that could be on the generous side 😆

We do it's part of our Broadband package but it's never used in fact it's unplugged at the wall as all we used to get was cold callers and outgoing calls are included in our packages using our mobiles .

I have a house phone with my broadband but it never gets used. I'm changing to a new broadband provider in a fortnight and getting rid of my landline, as all the family uses mobile phones.

Glitterandgold a lot of old people still like the house phone. I had mine for my mum and dad, but once they passed away, nobody else really called me on it so I was paying it for nothing I didn't even plug it in thanks for your comment 😊

Yes, we have one, don't use it much, mostly on a weekend because calls are free, I personally wouldn't have one, I never use it, it's my wife that wanted to keep one

martinlufc5637 I can't believe the number of people who still have one on LD. I know elderly people still like a house phone if you have older relatives. Thanks for your comment 😊

kate1310 the only reason we kept one is because it's only £3 a month with You fibre , I don't use it, my wife uses it to phone her mum on a weekend, calls are free all weekend

kate1310 we were with virgin for internet and phone, it was £54 a month, our contract was ending in February and it was rising to £72 on renewal, wasn't paying that, so checked youfibre out, it is £31.99 with double the speed of virgin and phone included, fixed price for 2 years, and they paid our existing contract off with virgin

ded We literally got rid of house phone a month ago because our broadband and line rental went up so much this year. Started researching and decided not to have a home line, this saved quite a lot of money.

Pjran I didn't think it would be that much more adding the phone to your contract. Where you phoning mobile phones, everything is going up a lot. The prices are ridiculous. It's just greed. Thanks for your comment 😊

kate1310 I think it was about £20+ for the line then broadband on top. As we have 2 mobiles decided to end the line rental.

After our land line stopped working properly we had it repaired by Virgin Media, after a few days it stopped working again so we made the decision to get rid of it...

Yea I do every day for elderly family too as the last person said. It’s back-up for no signal or problems with mobiles. Unfortunately the telephone companies are going to move to digital anyway so eventually will be pointless. I’m planning to stop using then or hopefully at least for as long as my parents are alive.

We only have ours because it is part of our sky bill and wouldn’t be any less if we removed it. Our number changed recently and I haven’t got a clue what it is and because our BT are so old the battery only lasts a couple of minutes before it gets cut off. Which is great when you don’t want to talk to someone. Just about manages to take messages when we are out.

Yes but its one of those digital voice connections so if the mains goes down then the phone doesn't work on mine. My mother has a Vodafone router and I couldn't help noticing her router came with a big lithium ion battery warning on the box so wonder if hers actually stores charge so emergency calls can be made by her digital landline. I have a call package included so have unlimited free calling so use my digital landline a lot but she doesn't so I always call her. My mobile phone contract is 250 minutes a month which I'll admit I don't get close to using all of anyway but even so use the digital landline all the time for outgoing calls. I was recently calling around for her about getting her boiler replaced and looking for quotes. I still like having a digital landline and hate doing stuff on the mobile and actually still having a call active on the mobile so its nice to just use the mobile for finding out stuff while I'm on the digital landline. Now that I've moved to First Direct banking everything is on the mobile.
