Does Anyone Still Have a House Phone ?And Do You Still Use It ?
Ask a Question
I was wondering if anyone at LD has a house phone ? Do you still use it ? Not many people have them now. I think everyone just uses their mobile phones
tumblespots omg have you thats absolutely brilliant I wish I was as sensible as you lol we all have contract phones the money we waste is terrible iam trying to be better lol
tumblespots I read somewhere..or maybe dreamt it lol, that they were eventually getting rid of landlines.
We do it's part of our Broadband package but it's never used in fact it's unplugged at the wall as all we used to get was cold callers and outgoing calls are included in our packages using our mobiles .
I have a house phone with my broadband but it never gets used. I'm changing to a new broadband provider in a fortnight and getting rid of my landline, as all the family uses mobile phones.
I still have one and use it now and then. My son keeps telling me to get rid of it as I have a mobile also so paying for landline that's hardly ever used tbh
KateGriff169 yes I was same thats why I cancelled mine you pay for it and don't use it I stopped plugging mine in thanks for your comment
We have one but it never gets used anymore. We kept it as my OH grandma called us on it, but since she is gone it has never been used. I unplugged it recently as was getting alot of scam calls.
Glitterandgold a lot of old people still like the house phone. I had mine for my mum and dad, but once they passed away, nobody else really called me on it so I was paying it for nothing I didn't even plug it in thanks for your comment
Yes, we have one, don't use it much, mostly on a weekend because calls are free, I personally wouldn't have one, I never use it, it's my wife that wanted to keep one
martinlufc5637 I can't believe the number of people who still have one on LD. I know elderly people still like a house phone if you have older relatives. Thanks for your comment
kate1310 the only reason we kept one is because it's only £3 a month with You fibre , I don't use it, my wife uses it to phone her mum on a weekend, calls are free all weekend
martinlufc5637 omg, is it it thats brilliant I would be keeping it also at that price especially if you use it I can't believe it's only £3
kate1310 we were with virgin for internet and phone, it was £54 a month, our contract was ending in February and it was rising to £72 on renewal, wasn't paying that, so checked youfibre out, it is £31.99 with double the speed of virgin and phone included, fixed price for 2 years, and they paid our existing contract off with virgin
ded We literally got rid of house phone a month ago because our broadband and line rental went up so much this year. Started researching and decided not to have a home line, this saved quite a lot of money.
After our land line stopped working properly we had it repaired by Virgin Media, after a few days it stopped working again so we made the decision to get rid of it...
We bought a cheap mobile phone & installed that in our home to use when our own mobiles are in use..
janphoenix51 that's a good idea to get a cheap mobile for the house thanks for your comment
Jerseydrew I think most people are like that they pay for it, and it just sits there. I still know my number only because it was easy. lol thanks for your comment
Yes we do and it is used everyday, it is easier for elderly family to keep in touch. Plus you don't need to worry about signal drooping out
sallylester1 do you thats brilliant there isant a lot of people that use them daily I know a lot of elderly people do still like a house phone all mine has passed away they don't like mobile phones or Internet thanks for your comment
Yea I do every day for elderly family too as the last person said. It’s back-up for no signal or problems with mobiles. Unfortunately the telephone companies are going to move to digital anyway so eventually will be pointless. I’m planning to stop using then or hopefully at least for as long as my parents are alive.
We only have ours because it is part of our sky bill and wouldn’t be any less if we removed it. Our number changed recently and I haven’t got a clue what it is and because our BT are so old the battery only lasts a couple of minutes before it gets cut off. Which is great when you don’t want to talk to someone. Just about manages to take messages when we are out.
eyeballkerry lol that's good if your not want to speak to scam callers or sales people thanks for your comment
Yes but its one of those digital voice connections so if the mains goes down then the phone doesn't work on mine. My mother has a Vodafone router and I couldn't help noticing her router came with a big lithium ion battery warning on the box so wonder if hers actually stores charge so emergency calls can be made by her digital landline. I have a call package included so have unlimited free calling so use my digital landline a lot but she doesn't so I always call her. My mobile phone contract is 250 minutes a month which I'll admit I don't get close to using all of anyway but even so use the digital landline all the time for outgoing calls. I was recently calling around for her about getting her boiler replaced and looking for quotes. I still like having a digital landline and hate doing stuff on the mobile and actually still having a call active on the mobile so its nice to just use the mobile for finding out stuff while I'm on the digital landline. Now that I've moved to First Direct banking everything is on the mobile.
BonzoBanana that's great you still use it a lot it will save you a fortune rather than a mobile all the time we all have mobile contracts and costs a fortune I dropped mine not long after I got it and cracked the screen but iam stuck with it thanks for your comment
I do and still use it. Broadband is linked to the landline and generally I find it handy to have an alternative to mobile
I have a home phone, bought twin handsets but they don’t work, ir in wrong socket
We never answered it anyway, as too dodgy these days then 1471.was always handy in cases misplaced my mobile.
Yes some of my relatives won't use mobiles so still have a landline and I get loads of scam calls from my "bank" and Microsoft as well - always makes me laugh!
I got one from a local free-cycle group last week as my mobile has been glitching for a while and the last problem was me not getting calls and all the settings were fine and I have poor health and was like what will I do if I need help and then my friend left me their back up mobile phone but it’d good I think for back up . I didn’t use one for years before last week I had it on a little table covered in dust apparently they were going to do away with landlines at some point maybe still are !
We still have a home phone but never use it for calls, we just use it for the light up digital clock.
No, i done away with mine a long time ago. It didn’t really have a purpose. I don’t like answering the phone not knowing who it is.
I have a mobile and a landline . To be fair I don't make or receive many calls as I meet friends and family virtually every day . Not one for nattering away to pass time . I realise that I could make calls over the internet (and it would make my current package with Plusnet cheaper if I did away with the landline and went purely internet ).
Is it just me ? Or does anyone else just feel more comfortable with a land line (for about £10 a month more ).
Probably the only time I feel it's worthwhile when faced with the "call queues " when trying to ring the Doctors or certain businesses . "we are experiencing high demand you are No ......... 68 in the queue etc " Just put the landline phone on speaker , enjoy the music - Not !! and carry on with what I'm doing till they answer .
Would probably cost a fortune with a mobile ?
We have one as part of the package -It s always been straight to answer machine so rarely gets answered
didbygraham Mine too , surprisingly a couple of clicks and they hang up - obviously yet another scam call , otherwise they would leave a message .
We have ours but will getting rid of it soon. The line has issues & BT won’t be fixing it - they’re phasing them out soon so they’re not going to do any fixing, just patch up work only
