Ebay Ending Cash on Collection Payment Option
Other
If you are selling locally and want to state cash on collection only that is no longer an option. This makes it very dodgy for sellers who may find payments reversed by ebay unfairly. I think the whole point of local sales is the person can see the product they are buying so there shouldn't be an issue. Personally I don't use ebay for local sales anyway I just use facebook marketplace for the few things I sell locally or maybe Gumtree.
The important thing is be careful now selling locally on ebay, people will attempt to get payments reversed and you could end up with no goods and no money.
Changes to private selling on eBay
We want to let you know about some upcoming changes to seller fees and to payment options when selling locally. These will be effective from 1 October 2024.
Free listing allowance change
Currently, private sellers can list up to 1,000 items a month for free on eBay. From 1 October, this will decrease to 300 listings per month. After you've used your monthly allocation of 300 free listings, you'll be charged 35p for each new listing created.
International fee change
If your registered address is in the UK, we charge an international fee when the delivery address for the item is outside the UK.
Until now this fee has varied by region. Starting from 1 October there will be a flat rate of 3% across all shipping regions. This will be calculated on the total amount of the sale which includes the item price, any handling charges, postage, and any applicable taxes.
Removing cash on pickup for local listings
Many sellers offer free collection in person, especially for large items which may be difficult to post. As we continue to make sure eBay is a safe and secure place to sell your items, we will be removing the option for buyers to pay with cash for items from 1 October. Instead, all payments for local items will go through the site - with a simple digital confirmation on collection - to ensure that you get paid securely and promptly by buyers.
Thanks for this topic just checking here seen this also read half topic I’ll share with my friends they have ebay accounts
Another nail in the coffin for eBay , it's gone downhill big time, can't remember the last time I purchased anything from there, and I was a regular buyer
SaveMeSunday I used to sell there a lot, but switched to Vinted instead.
Plus, I don't particularly like if a buyer asks to come collect an item, just for safety and precaution reasons. You don't know who'll show up.
blacklabrador The trouble with Facebook Marketplace is people don't expect to pay much there but I have managed to sell a few things at a reasonable price. Even if I wanted to sell locally with Ebay I won't do it now. Ebay are not a fair company and I can see them reversing payments unfairly and have seen many such reports on forums where someone has accepted an ebay payment for a local collection item and its been reversed for unfair reasons. What ebay claim making safer for buyers just means less safe for sellers. For most items examining on collection is enough to verify the item is as described.
BonzoBanana Completely agree, eBay is so stacked in favour of buyers rather than sellers that if a buyer ever raises an issue with me I resign myself to the fact eBay will come down on their side - even if I clearly show I am in the right.
blacklabrador Like you, I just accept the losses on a small number of sales and I guess that is the point it will massively increase the unfairness to sellers. There is no reason to stop cash on collection sales in my opinion. I've bought many items cash on collection and never had any issues. I could see the goods and often the seller would show them working etc. I realise a electrical product could have an intermittent fault but I've never experienced that. I would of thought more clear warnings on ebay would have been all that is needed. As it is people have the right to bid on items on ebay for cash on collection and if they turn up and think its not worth buying they will not be punished as they can claim it is not as described. I did this myself as was not happy with the condition of an item which had poor images. The seller is prevented leaving bad feedback anyway about buyers which again is unfair. I've had to leave positive feedback about sellers who clearly pretend they haven't received goods because I can't choose negative feedback.
