eBay Will No Longer Accept Payments Using Amex from August 17

Other

Just added my Amex card to pay for an item and saw the warning that from August 17 they'll stop accepting it. It can however be used via PayPal or Venmo... Okay, but I don't use either of those I'll use another CC.

First was seller payments to PayPal (admittedly the new eBay system is better) that was axed, Nectar Points getting removed, and now Amex cards won't be able to be used without a money transfer website. What's next?

Amex charge big fees so not surprised at all. Nectar is just a disaster and unprofessional company so again not surprised. Ebay saving themselves some money I guess in order to increase their margin and become more profitable. I hope they come up with their own loyalty scheme at some point. Maybe if you sell you get some points you can use for purchases. Maybe 1% of sales fees become points for buying or something like that so it motivates customers to sell and buy.

BonzoBanana That is actually a brilliant idea for eBay to have their own loyalty scheme. I think eBay has really gone down hill a bit lately. I’m not a massive seller on there but I have sold items on there in the past.

reannsgran eBay doesn't have a loyalty program on other countries, from what I remember so it may be left as an auction/buy now website.

To be fair, that's what I go there for. Anything extra is just a nice incentive.

PhilipMarc The US site had 'ebay bucks' but was discontinued in April. I still think its a good idea but I guess its down to how the implement it. However motivating people to sell and buy would probably help their profits as many customers don't sell on ebay but perhaps might if it earnt them ebay spending points. I realise you have to factor how much resources goes into setting it up though, it may not be cost effective.

telmel I find ebay often the cheapest source for many goods and I also sell on there a lot. Often the same products that are on ebay and Amazon are cheaper on ebay. It's really down to what you are buying though. I buy tech products and cycling related products mostly.

BonzoBanana I prefer to sell on Vinted, no fees for the sellers, but if it doesn't sell there then I'll list it on eBay.

I haven't shopped on eBay for ages, it's no longer a cheaper option for buying, probably axed it because of the fees

I used my Amex on PayPal and then use that to pay. I do that on alot of websites that don’t accept Amex.
