What does everyone think about them trying to get human life to live on other planets?
Definitely very important for the long term survival of the human race. It would be so easy for a comet, asteroid or even rogue planet to collide with Earth and wipe out all life. While getting colonies established in other parts of the solar system would be difficult once established they could be completely self-sustaining without assistance from Earth. I personally think its more important to concentrate on scanning space for possible collision threats and working out ways to knock them off a collision course with earth which is much easier to do the further they are away. It would need a huge nuclear arsenal to prevent a collision with a rogue planet though.
It can't be done end of. Imagine the rich people with more money than common senses, no hospitals available, mobile phones not working, no designer clothes shops available, no food outlets to choose from, I could go on. The mad scientist is at it again.
The millionaires and billionaires can escape when they ruin Earth completely, but the rest of us are stuck here. Great...
I'm still waiting for that asteroid to hit our planet.
PhilipMarc Human lives are short and extinction events come around every 40 to 150 million years.
Past extinction events;
Ordovician-silurian Extinction: 440 million years ago.
Devonian Extinction: 365 million years ago.
Permian-triassic Extinction: 250 million years ago.
Triassic-jurassic Extinction: 210 million years ago.
Cretaceous-tertiary Extinction: 65 million Years Ago.
So I guess you could say we are in the window of such an event but of course much more frequently than that there are asteroid collisions that just wipe out smaller areas and don't effect the whole world.
Then of course if it was really large it would wipe out all life permanently even bacteria.
Setting up new colonies in the solar system is going to need the right mindset which probably few have.
