Have You Ever Had a Colleague Take Credit for Your Work That You Did?
Ask a Question
Have you been in the situation where a colleague accepts/takes credit for YOUR work? How would/did you handle the situation? Not me this time but asking for a younger family member.
Yep, happened to me once.
So I simply didn't tell the "credit thief" how it was done and went for my day off, needless to say they had some explaining to do when they couldn't replicate the task (think it was spatchcocking and preparing chicken as I remember)
blacklabrador Yes I think withholding your experience is probably the best way. I’m not sure how experienced her colleague is though or whether they are senior or not. I don’t actually know the full details.
JLouM I'm a firm believer that these things tend to unravel for the person who took the undeserved credit.
Either by being found out or by the bad feeling created by his/her actions.
I don’t recall in recent times, but many years ago I heard someone tried to claim credit for something I’d done, but everyone knew it was my work so it wasn’t an issue - tbh I‘lol always say it’s a joint/team effort, but I suppose when the positive changes happen when I start working for them, it sorts of speaks for itself. Either way, I’m afraid that with work, no matter how well you do you will always be remembered for your worst mistake
I've had it happen to me in the past. I called them out in a staff meeting. They were absolutely raging, but not as mad as our head of department when they found out. I never helped them out again. If it had been a joint effort then I wouldn't have minded but it wasn't.
Yup. I worked hard for about 2 years on a project. My supervisor in front if me took the credit as if it was solely her. The manager higher up waited til she walked off for her 30 minute quick *** break to say he was actuallytslking to both of us and how much he appreciated my hard work. (Yeah she royally took the mick every other smoker buggered off for 5 minutes or under). She had a reputation for bullying and generally being nasty to those younger then her. She was bitter nasty woman
Yes, one of my managers years ago asked me to do an investigation for him and when I went back with all my findings, he said thanks so much i'll take the credit for that and laughed lol.
When applying for a promotion we had to write a piece on Qualities of a Good Manager which was to include how you would improve procedures etc.
Needless to say my colleague and I didn't get the job and they gave it to a 63 year old from another council in another role who knew absolutely zilch about our work. Even before I left, and afterwards, the interviewer put into practice many of my ideas and I assume did so as if they were hers.
My OH has. Company he worked for was given a contract to tidy up a local patch. My OH did the all the work on his own. Cutting hedges, planting flowers etc. Some local residents were so impressed by the difference & how great it looked they wrote to the mayor. The mayor in turn wrote to the company congratulating them & invited them to some event. OH boss went & took all credit. He left soon after. Due to other issues on top.
Glitterandgold I just don't understaunderstand how people have it in them to do such things, they must have had a conscience bypass.
