Have You Ever Sent an Open Letter or Email to Someone Well Known?
Ask a Question
I wouldn't say I am a regular writer of these sort of letters but I have just put the finishing touches to a 4 page document to Keir Starmer (it will be posted today) and a couple of years ago I wrote a letter to Putin.
I think that a letter describing your feelings always helps to get it out of your brain and on to paper, stopping those insidious whirling thoughts going round and round and getting you down.
It is always nice to congratulate or thank people you admire and even if you get no reply you have probably helped to outweigh some of the nasty comments people get from trolls.
And who knows, your thoughts may even sow a little seed in someone's mind which will take root.
PhilipMarc ha ha I was very careful with my wording but to be honest, imagine the headlines if plod knocked on the door of a great grandmother who just privately voiced 'free speech'. Almost worth it to be arrested as the press could gladly have a copy of the letter.
Will be interesting to see if you get any reply. Interesting you sent one to putin, wonder if it actually made it to him
I sign petitions online and have written to the odd politician or two.Sadly very few reply.I have a friend who spends his life sending satires to politicians. He's really rather good at it.Artfully good and tactfully challenges their misgivings.
MelissaLee1 I know without a doubt I won't get a reply, but it is enough for me to know it reached someone's eyes, if only to judge whether it goes in the bin. I made sure I followed the correct etiquette for addressing him and in the address!
martinlufc5637 yes, I appreciate that, more a courtesy thing to pretend it's been read lol. It's off my chest though and it has, surprisingly, stopped all those words constantly running through my mind.
