Have You Ever Traded in at CEX?

Ask a Question

Have you ever traded in at CEX?

I took a stack of DVD years ago and when they gave me the receipt, I saw some I was only being given 20p for and others nothing but they had taken them anyway - i might aswell have donated them to a charity shop!

Yeah that’s very cheeky of them if they didn’t let you know they wouldn’t be paying you for them but took them. I wouldn’t be happy about that cause if I’m giving it for free then I’m definitely taking it to the charity shop and not a for profit business.

I have traded in phones but it’s hit and miss, I remember arguing with a guy cause he tried to say my phone had a big scratch on the screen and said it was condition C not B. It was clearly a smudge so i just went and got a cleaning cloth then returned.

I find that CEX started off decent but as they’ve got more established their prices have gone up but they give less for your items.

I've never traded anything in at CEX but have bought a lot of items from them. Some of them were purchased online and many items didn't match the description at all. I ordered a mini pc and the mini pc came was much lower spec with halve the memory. Some cameras I have ordered were faulty. I remember a Praktica bridge camera which had a enlarged lithium ion battery so no surprise it wasn't working correctly. It took ages to remove it from the camera as it was so tight in the battery slot. No one had checked it properly. The biggest issue I have is they just keep cancelling online orders. You order something and about 4 days later you get a cancellation but as soon as they cancel it re-appears in stock. I re-ordered the same item 4 times hoping on one occasion they would send it but never did. Absolute farce maybe they want these cheaper priced items to be seen only to give a false impression of value. So don't be surprised if you find a bargain on the CEX site that is cancelled after a few days.

Yes I have traded in there before. I had great experience years ago when they were opening everywhere, but the last time it wasn't the best experience, I'm not sure I have traded in there again as it hasn't been worth it. I have occasionally bought there though but only games and DVDs, I don't think I've ever bought electronics.

I always check prices against other sites like GAME, Mazuma, Money Magpie and decide if it is worth going in store or sending off (at least going in store you can get it checked there and if they decline you still have your item)

I then try to sell secondhand between what they would give me and what they sell for.

Freeads

Gumtree

Shpock

Vinted

eBay

If I need the money quick CEX or Mazuma are usually my go to for phones.

CEX or GAME is usually my go to for games.

I tend to donate CDs, DVDs or Blurays to charity or give away on OLIO, as it doesn't seem worth it.

I've bought from CEX online maybe once, it took forever but it arrived fine.

I've bought in store and I don't think I've ever had an issue.

I've had trouble selling in-store as a tiny mark on the outside of the phone casing, they wanted to drop it down a lot, so I took my item back. I also bought a game from them once, it was scratched but worked fine, I took it back to trade it back in once I finished it and they told me they needed to take £2.50 off he £6 value because it was scratched and they told me they had to put it through the cleaning machine - cleaning wouldn't clean off a scratch and I bought it from them like that! They argued so I accepted it as I didn't need it anymore. But had some good experiences trading in devices too. I think it depends who you get as well as the store itself.

They do tend to give discs a wipe though before rejecting. We recently took some games to GAME and they said they wouldn't take it as it had a finger print on it, we wiped it outside of the shop and took it to CEX where we got the same amount and no question. Not sure why GAME couldn't wipe it 🤦‍♀️ they just instantly rejected it.

Yes, don’t really recommend. They’re massive rip offs, some of the retro games have astronomicaly high prices. You can 9/10 get it cheaper on vinted, gumtree, facebook or other online markets, carboits or markets
