Have you ever tried a recipe box like Hello Fresh or Simply Cook?
I keep getting a lot of emails with offer codes. Just wanted to canvass opinion before trying them out.
Thanks
My friend uses them and she gets on my nerves constantly telling me about them, I am sure she gets some sort of reward for signing people up!
I keep telling her that it isn't an option for me as I often can't be bothered to cook for myself as I often get in late. Sometimes I just don't want a cooked meal and my food bill would be no cheaper.
We got a free offer with Hello Fresh because my Sister-in-law uses them.
They were very nice indeed, although the Chef in me had to resist the temptation to say I could do it better.
I’ve used Hello Fresh a few times. If you’re considering it you can get some really good deals on your first order. I stopped once every meal had supplements added to the basic meal cost.
I found the Hello Fresh offer worth buying from Buy A Gift
HelloFresh One Week Meal Kit with Four Meals for Two People 107104531 £13
My daughter buys them sometimes when they are on offer. She finds them good for taking on a weekend away break if she has booked a cottage.
Out of the 12 Simply Cook recipes that I got, we have 11 left.
The problem is that you have to buy all the ingredients
My daughter uses hello fresh she thinks it's great we use to use gousto I thought they were brilliant all the meals tasted really nice
TiaTia My son is a chef and getting him to cook on his day just does not happen "Mum, it's my day OFF"
Brilliant thanks all - i may give hello freash a try - there are many codes and offers so worth giving it a go
have a great day!!
I have been using Gousto for a few years now. It works for us, busy lives, full-time working parents. Nice to come home and have ingredients ready and an easy recipe to follow.
Another nice thing is to have different recipes every week, so you do not end up bored and eating the same thing.
It is more expensive than going to the supermarket and buying you, but you don't waste food, have it delivered once a week, try different cuisines, have easy recipes, etc.
Iv used Hello Fresh & Simply cook previously. I really like them & it's a great way to try new recipes. I love the vietnese pork simply cook recipe but I can buy the kit at Tescos now & usually on offer.
Simply Cook was good to sample new dishes I’d never tried before, but as people have said the downside is you have to buy the rest of the ingredients. Worth getting the free trial.
We did Hello Fresh as we used one of the many discounts they flaunt. It was good to try new recipes but I hated all the wasteful packaging as they give you tiny sachets of soy sauce or spices to make the recipes. So for that reason we stopped getting it once our offer ended. I should dig out the recipe cards and make some of the dishes again.
snoogans888 Hey, thanks for your helpful comment. We've emailed you a £1 Costa coupon to say thank you! It has gone to the email address on your Latest Deals account.
Mayhem, I used Simply Cook for 3 years but stopped middle of 2022 mainly due to a stock pile of 'dishes'. I used to get one pack (4 dishes) every 4 weeks and found that some of the recipes would do at least double and were just as flavoursome.
We used Hello Fresh for a while - it was very handy during lockdown but my wife got a bit fed up as after a while we had gone through most of the meal options were were interested in. We did try again while my wife was undergoing chemotherapy as supposedly I could cook a few meals - but I really struggled with following some of the instructions and gave up!
Its certainly worth trying them out under one of their offers. You can always cancel if you dont think its worth the effort. They were easy to deal with and quick to redress any issues with missing ingredients etc (rare to be fair!)
We haven’t we have meant to but still thinking costs more that getting the food shopping in so haven’t as yet
Often these recipe boxes will end up more expensive, but it is usually quality products and it is about the ease of cooking, having it all/most of it there when you need it, delivered to your door. It helped us eat healthier when I was very unwell and my partner was coming home from a full time job knackered and didn't have the energy to cook. It doesn't really work out more expensive if health is involved and you might be ordering a takeaway anyway! Saves time, energy and waste.
You can also keep the recipes to repeat later and buy the ingredients yourself to get it cheaper at a later date.
We've tried Hello Fresh and loved it, we got some great deals too and used to join back up with a good discount, was great to try new recipes and was good quality, I don't think we ever had many issues and we had them a fair bit.
I believe we had Mindful chef once when there was a deal, I don't remember much which means it couldn't have been too bad!
We loved Gousto and did it with deals like we did Hello Fresh but sadly too many mistakes, like wrong recipe cards and missing ingredients were a huge factor of why we ended up cancelling.
I did used to order from Graze as there were some great deals on them too and ended up having healthier, smaller snacks available to hand. It was exciting when it was the day of delivery. This is more of a snack service though I believe. But something I thought was worth mentioning as I did love getting them. Although there are some of their products available in stores now.
A few of the most popular boxes (check locally, sometimes local people will offer similar services or green grocers/butchers will offer a delivery service for batches of fruit, veg or meat etc.)
