Have You Ever Written to an Agony Aunt?
Ask a Question
This afternoon I was relaxing reading a magazine when I started the Agony Aunt pages. I was surprised some of questions people asked these complete strangers seeking guidance. Of course I was also saying to myself what I would reply. Only one I completely disagreed with.
Do you hear yourself giving your own opinions? Would you write asking?
I do read these in take a break magazine but my real worry is how long it takes to get your answer published. Hopefully the answers help other people as well.
eyeballkerry I’m sure those who ask are pleased that they’ve got an answer but I wonder if they act upon the advice.
No I have never written into one , but always read them. I think they are contacted before it's published but not 100% sure
In some cases i think the situations are made up but it’s still entertaining. I can see the appeal cause you get advice anonymously which is good for sensitive issues.
Me personally though i need to know who my advice is coming from cause if they aren’t similar in mindset to me then I’m not sure the advice would be helpful
I remember reading them avidly when I was a young girl in case they gave advice about something that also troubled me, but I haven't really given them any thought since.
I do agree with you though, that I probably wouldn't agree with the advice given these days but as Miss Marple said 'just because good advice isn't listened to, doesn't mean you shouldn't give it'.
The question is - is it good advice?
tumblespots I think as we mature we have experience and often know people who have gone through certain situations so can offer advice but no one listens to me so I don’t offer now
A female friend sent of f a letter she got some good advice back and left her cheating husband and rebuilt her and her kids life
No but I phoned in to a tv one and complained about my lazy partner who sat around the house all day while I worked and supported us and came home to cook and clean as well. They advised I get shot of him..........so I did!
