Family Ignorant of any Hazard Sunbathe under a 'Beware Dangerous Cliffs' Sign

In the News

We all like a bit of rock when we go to the seaside, but not the sort this family could have had if there was a landslide

Either the family couldn't read or they had a death wish

What father in his right mind would chance putting his family in danger this way ?

Obviously there was a sign which you would thought one of them could see and read it but there are many beaches in the world where it is dangerous to sit near rocks but have no signs.

We avoid sitting under or close to any cliffs at the beach. They seem to be falling far more frequently than 20 years ago. So I wouldn't sit near one even if it didn't have a sign. Locally we've also seen a rise in people lose there life when walking to close to the top aswell.

Midnightflower I think because of global warming and adverse weather there is a lot more coastal erosion now than previously, you see all the stories in the papers about houses built close to the cliff edges collapsing onto the shores below, so falling rocks aren't the only thing to worry about M, you might end up with a three bedroom detached on your head 😲

An area I know well. Sadly too many people are ignorant of this and many other hazards - being cut off by the tide, drifting out to sea in inflatables, dodging waves in stormy weather etc. It surprises me that there aren't more serious injuries or fatalities.

People will look at the signs and decide if they think it will happen, and more than likely decide it wont. And lets face it 99.99% of people who sunbathe there will be fine. Sadly if you are there at the wrong time then it could be fatal. There have been rock falls along this stretch of coastline for years and I cant recall any time people have been injured. This just makes us more complacent. I wouldn't personally sunbathe there at the moment as I know there have been recent rock falls, but if I didn't know this then possibly would ignore the notices. Its like a lot of things - speeding, drink driving, driving while on the phone - we all know its dangerous but actually 99.9% of the time we will get away with it.
