PS5 Price Drop: Should You Upgrade or Stick with Your PS4?
Ask a Question
The ps5 have recently got a price cut following the launch of the PS5 Pro, and so today i want to ask all of you whether you are going to buy it. Personally, from a PS4, I will be upgrading either to a PS6 or a PC.
I can’t justify the price for the little time i actually would use it. Only thing that’s annoyed me is that i’ve been waiting to buy certain ps4 games but they haven’t dropped in price because i think people with ps5s can play them on there.
I bought a used OG PS5 Disc Drive for £260 from Vinted and very happy with it, plus it came with the firmware 7.00 which will eventually be hackable. Currently, I'm playing Demon's Souls (disc) and it looks and plays amazingly.
Additionally, I purchased black face plates so it looks a lot nicer and sleeker.
So yeah, I got lucky with a PS5 for only £260 and in pristine condition, but others are in similar condition and generally go for £300ish.
I've lost interest in the main consoles nowadays, games have become more focused on multiplayer where as I like the scripted single player experience where you work through a story to conclusion. My type of games are out of favour nowadays it seems. So I really don't see the point in getting the latest Playstation or Xbox anymore especially with internet access for games charged on top. The full PSN package is now a £100 a year where as online gaming on PC and Android is free. I've also been amazed at how high the pricing is for PS5 games when bought at retail stores. PC gaming is so much better value nowadays and you just buy the PC you can afford. You don't need the very fastest PC to play the latest games often they have lower resolution or detail options. Is 4K gaming that much better than 1080p gaming or even 720p gaming personally I don't think so. Even on PC I struggle to find new games I want to play and often resort to playing older games with graphic enhancements or new quests/levels that modders have created.
I built my son a gaming PC they are much better than Xbox or playstation, he was playstation mad, he's very happy with his set up and is not interested in the new playstation
martinlufc5637 Was it a super expensive build or something around the price of a playstation or xbox anyway? I much prefer PC gaming nowadays and you can still play all your old PC games on your steam account. I have a huge steam library now plus a huge Epic game library because of their weekly giveaways which admittedly most of which I've never played but free games, free online gaming, more games, game mods, emulating consoles etc, etc. PC gaming is far superior to Playstation and Xbox gaming in my opinion.
BonzoBanana it took me just over a year to build it up, I waited around for deals ect.. was in the range of about £800 that included a 42 inch gaming monitor , £800 included everything you'd possibly need and the desk & chair, I don't game as much as I use too, but my son much prefers the PC set up, he thanks me for it all the time, so was worth every penny, plus I don't have to buy anymore playstations lol so it's win/win situation for me and in the long term saves me a lot of money
martinlufc5637 The other thing that annoys me about consoles is with Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft you don't really own the games you buy. Often they close access to the servers after a while and you can no longer download the games you have bought so you lose access after a few years. I've had some of my steam games a very, very long time and still can download them without issue. I've had steam for close to 20 years now and can still download my early purchases. In contrast online purchases for consoles like wii u just disappear.
