Are You in the Festive Mood ?

Ask a Question

For the last 5 years, something has always gone wrong over the Christmas period, ill health, bereavement etc.

This year, I can't seem to be able to find that Christmas cheer. I think I am waiting for something to go wrong. The decorations are up, presents are wrapped, food shopping done, listening to Christmas music, opened the Christmas chocs. But just feel flat, not sure if I'm trying too hard, also feel guilty about feeling this way as charity adverts about homelessness etc. Makes me think I should be counting my blessings.

Am I the only one feeling this way ? and do you have any tips to get out of a funk.

I’m sure you’re not the only one. Christmas is so false and artificial these days with everyone full of joy and partying but that’s just advertising. I’m sure all on LatestDeals can consider themselves fortunate so please don’t feel guilty about the way you feel. I’m not a party animal either.

I never feel festive until Christmas eve and I'm putting our sons presents under the tree. I am all ready for Christmas but not feeling festive like the adverts show. I don't feel guilty about not feeling festive as I never do.

We never feel festive but feel there is a lot of pressure on people to get into the 'Christmas spirit' by spending way over their budget. Christmas is not about how many presents a fat man in a red suit who magically slims down to fit through a keyhole or chimney brings, gifts from our house never exceed £30 each.

lilyflower I used to love Christmas, it has never been about the gifts, but getting together with family, but due to loved ones no longer being with us, plus ill health, making things more difficult. It just seems so much effort. But trying to get into the mood for my husband and son.

beccatavender I loved Christmas as a child, but now those around me just want to spend spend spend each trying to out do the other. I know step-sons partner has spent over £2k but not paid her rent and is under threat of notice and some of the items she bought las year are still unused in the attic. I won't see any of my family so nothing to get excited about.

lilyflower What a silly thing to do, a roof over your head is more important than any day. Kids don't remember things, memories are spending time together and to be honest that never lives up to expectations 😁

the last 2 xmas i didn't drink through choice, they were not the same most years i drink a couple of beers and a bottle of wine while cooking dinner. this year i have said i will drink but it still doesn't feel right yet.

i was out last friday with my friends and last saturday was my works night out but even then it still didn't feel like xmas. tomorrow is black friday and its my daughters first one she can legally drink so we are going away and out early on a session i'm hoping that might get it feeling more like xmas..

Antiwoke Thank you,I was pleased to see my son and it was nice seeing his reactions to his gifts, we had a nice day, very relaxed. I come to the conclusion that you need young children who still believe in Santa, otherwise it's like any other Sunday, but with more food and presents 😀

I hope you have a great day and enjoyed your 1st legal drink with your daughter.

I'm feeling panicky. Right now. Have I forgotten anything, will something go wrong, then boxing day I usually feel I'll because the nervous energy is gone.

I never feel festive until Christmas eve i always thinks that's the best time getting all the presents ready especially if you have you kids its so exciting but from covid started I stayed away from all my own family as my mother in law was ill and didn't want to pass anything to her but she passed away recently but just feel I can't be bothered this year I always loved Christmas before covid and her illness

kate1310 I can totally relate to that, Christmas hasn't been the same since my Mum passed. It's been a few years and I still haven't recaptured that festival feeling.

I have really cut down on Christmas and feel so much better for it. I think we all feel it is going to be an amazing day and expect too much so now I do little and anything good that happens is a bonus.

Yeah, it's Christmas, after all.

My sister doesn't celebrate Christmas (she's from a Christian sect, the one which they on knock doors or used to) so she doesn't understand (or won't) why people only listen to Christmas music during this time around the year... Come on....

I love listening to Xmas tunes around this time of the year, but if it were through the whole year? I'd feel pretty tired of it.

I’m not really one for Christmas as like you something always happens. This year I have a chest infection and an ear infection. The pain in my ear is unbearable as it’s going up and down from temple down to half way down my neck 😩

TracyStorrie So sorry you are feeling unwell. Hopefully you can find some relief from the pain. Have you tried a warm compress?

beccatavender I have been alternating warm and cold and it’s eased the pain in my ear. However it really hasn’t been my day as I’ve now hurt my shoulder trying to open my bedroom window. Old cottage with sash windows 🤦🏼‍♀️ and then I had to phone for an ambulance for my mother as she was let out of hospital last Tuesday after being in for 2 weeks with a raging infection. She seemed better Tuesday but as the week went on she’s declined. I think next year I will just give Christmas a miss 🤣🤣 hope you had a nice day ♥️

beccatavender I have been but I’ve told them I’m having a couple days rest to help my shoulder. My mum got home but she has pneumonia and the hospital said she is safer at home than staying in hospital surrounded by sick people 🤦🏼‍♀️ fingers crossed that 2023 will be better than the years have had. Hope you have a good one. You Take care too

TracyStorrie I hope your Mum gets better soon, I had double pneumonia last December and I felt a lot better, once I left hospital as you can rest properly without the constant noise 😀

Antibiotics can do wonders, so try not to worry and concentrate on your own recovery, take care.
