Fish & Chip Shops?
Ask a Question
Since when did they start closing at 8.30 on a Friday evening? I’m sure they used to stay open until 10 pm. I was trying to save my elderly parents from doing me dinner as I was hoping to get something from the shop and it was too late to cook.
That does seem quite early and rather gives the lie to how much they are struggling and have to put prices up so high. Especially a Friday as you say.
The ones where I am did but that's cos they would get people coming from the pub. They probably don't get many in especially as young people don't eat fresh and chips as much nor go drinking etc and most will get fish and chips by 8.30 at a guess
Our chip shop is only open Thursday evening, Friday lunch & evening and Saturday lunch. In the evenings they close at 8pm!
Ours is 8pm, sometimes if we are busy or have rugby training or something it gets late, and if I was to start cooking when got home it would be god knows when but sometimes we are too late for the chips
We have one chippy near me and it's nasty I won't eat there my old local chippy was amazing but they used to open till gone 12
I can not remember the last time I had fish and chips from my local one. I prefer to travel further and make a day of it when I get fish and chips, usually by the sea side. One of my favourite places to go is Wroxham in Norfolk.
Use to be 12pm near us, now 9pm with the closure of pubs and less people going out drinking they don't get the traffic like years ago, so no need to stay open late
Our local chippie which is just down the road from my mother's house opens at 3pm on some days and I'm thinking that is just after the normal 12-2pm lunch break for most people. However I guess it works for them and they can see the numbers in front of them. I'm guessing 3pm is when the kids come out of school etc.
They open late where I am but then there are two churches nearby and Friday and fish go well together.
Traditionally we always had fish and chips on Saturday lunchtime BUT my local finishes the weeks business on Friday teatime. Why? There was always a Saturday queue.....madness thinking I cannot fathom why
I cannot believe they closed at 8.30 did they have a notice on the door saying why closed ? Surely can’t be usual closing time that’s unheard of.especially on a Fish Friday!! Mine are usually 12-2 then 5-11
That does seem early! Years ago I had a local Chinese chippy which was less than 1 min walk so really handy. He had a simple policy - he officially closed at 10:30 - but usually stayed open until he had sold most of his food - or people stopped coming out of the local pubs. He actually got busted several times for opening beyond his hours which was a shame. Living so close meant I knew when to pop round and get the bigger portions!
Our local chip shop closes at 10pm on a Friday and Saturday evening, may be yours doesn't have enough people calling in to warrant staying open later.
The one we go to stays open until 2am on weekends! I guess to catch people coming home from nights out. 8:30 seems early, especially for a Friday, they must lose a lot of trade x
