Is Football Coming Home?
Ask a Question
I am a huge football by any means but I have been watching the Euros for the last couple of weeks. Do you think we have a chance a winning?
From what I can remember Spain have won all of their games so far. It is certainly possible for them to win but they will have to bring their A game.
In early stages I would have said no.
Last night was very different I believe we can do it. No more years of hurt. After getting told to keep the noise down from my son who was trying to sleep wondering if I should let them watch on Sunday. My kids are 8,9 and 20
Imnotcheap unfortunately it didn’t come home. I’m not much of a football fan but after the second goal thought we may have had a chance.
Can't see it personally. Spain have been the team of the tournament and gonna take something special to beat them imo. Fingers crossed though
Spain have been the best team in the tournament so it’s going to be a tough game. If we play at a high level we can win it.
jms19 I don’t really understand all the rules in football but I do know my husband was making a lot of noises at the screen.
I'm Welsh, so I hope that the Spanish beat England, otherwise we won't hear the end of it for the next 40 years
England are still dining out on the 1966 World Cup win.
But if England play like they did in the 1st half against Holland, they'll have a good chance
SebK84 I think Wales have done much better than Scotland in the Euros despite being a smaller country. I think they got to the semi-finals where as Scotland have never left the group stage. Perhaps I have remembered wrongly though. Wales definitely have slightly better weather overall than Scotland though which does seem to be a factor in sporting success with many countries with warmer weather punching above their weight for their population size as outdoor sports typically are a more common activity with more active sporting people to choose from with regard competitive sports.
TheChimp Got your wish. I didn’t think we would win. Always seem to get so close. I’m wondering about all the real fans getting up for work this morning, could be a few sick notes.
Morning eyeballkerry All us Celts are waking up very smug today.
I made a few quid on the result, so I'm going to buy MrsChimp something.
Never mind for the English this time, we'll hear them spouting the same old sh*t in 2 years time for the World Cup.
It's coming home?
Spain are favourites to win but we still have a good chance of winning but realistically Spain are more likely to win. I'd say its about a 60% probability of Spain winning. However when I watched their match against France there were times where they didn't seem that great so you never know. It was also great to see Ollie Watkins who is from the south west (Devon) score that important goal. We don't typically produce many great footballers down in this region as we have a low population density and many of the great players come from the big cities so pleased to see him do so well.
BonzoBanana Good to know about your local boy. There will be probably be big celebrations if he does it again and his home town will be on the map.
eyeballkerry...John Stone is is a Barnsley lad, Harry Mcguire is a Sheffield lad & Kyle Walker is also a Sheffield lad, Kyle's Uncle used to work across the road from the company I worked at , a lovely popular man who always had a smile, unfortunately he passed away a few years ago..
RIP Bunny Walker..x
SebK84 I have seen a few around but not sure the police are going to do anything about them. Be too much paperwork for them.
It would be fantastic if they do win, at the end of the day it could go either way . But good luck England.
HEDGEHOGS unfortunately it didn’t go Englands way. It went my daughters way as she is a landlady of a pub and it was packed.
eyeballkerry Such a shame but hands up to Spain as they were the better team by far.
eyeballkerry ...My Niece & her husband, his business partner & wife run a Micro Pub in Rotherham as well as a few other businesses, they took the decision to close & spend time watching with their families..
I doubt it very much. We always seem to get to quarters or semis and then lose in the final. However, I sincerely hope I am proved wrong.
Lynibis We are good at getting so far in competitions then lose at the last hurdle. Maybe just maybe we can do it.
martinlufc5637 I am sure many will be sitting on the edge of their seats. I do like penalties if they draw but feel sorry if a team member misses.
xKJG93 I took early retirement so a bank holiday does not really affect me. I live near a primary school so I do appreciate the quietness.
jam45 He currently earns £5 Million a year, and will walk into another highly paid managerial job if he loses the England Gig.
So I don't particularly feel sorry for him.
I hope he stays on as England Manager though, whatever happens tomorrow.
stevea808 We're only a little country though, so we don't expect much. It's the expectation of the English that annoys the hell out of the Celts and everyone
England only played one decent team in the Euros and that was Spain and they lost.
Never mind, onto the World Cup qualifiers and we'll see how Wales do.
Gromit22 I think most of us realised that. Spain have been brilliant and we only scraped through one of our matches. Probably the real final dare I say it was Spain vs Germany or Spain vs France. However we have got to the final twice in succession. We have done brilliantly just not quite good enough to take the title.
BonzoBanana agreed we made it to the final nevertheless - I do wonder if they don’t get enough training time together to become a real “team “
Disappointing again, wrong team selection, kane should have been dropped he's had a bad tournament, Southgate should be sacked
Kane was rubbish, I don't get the hype about Bellingham at all, we only seem to start playing when we are behind.
Oh well, maybe next time.
Don't really care about soccer so I was indifferent about the British team losing (I mean, it sucks, but it's a sport).
Next year there's the FIFA World Cup.
PhilipMarc I am generally a football fan but I did watch a few of the England games. I went to Wembley once when I was five months pregnant, didn’t end well!
England only goes for their duty frees & nothing else. I & many others thought Spain would win. Not a Football fan. I am a Rugby Fan being Welsh myself.
