Footballers Pay is Ridiculous

In the News

Messi could be on a £500m contract to Saudi Arabian club next season. Ronaldo is on £75m a year plus another £200m to support Saudi bid for World Cup. When people are struggling to buy a loaf of bread or turn heat on at home why are we paying these stupid wages?

Agree. It’s way out of hand and it makes no sense at all. No one should be on that kind of money it’s disgusting

At the end of the day they keep putting up ticket prices, match viewing costs and the price of kits and the fans keep paying it. Like any business they try to maximise their profits and fans just keep stumping up the money. If you don't want these excessive wages then don't pay the money. They are exploiting fan loyalty.

At least its not like something we are forced to pay for. Many public sector jobs have ridiculous wages and pensions and we are forced to pay it through taxation we cannot opt out and say those pay and conditions are unreasonable but at least football fans have that option if they are disgusted with wages.

Think of how many poor people could benefit from even a little of that amount .. they'd be no poverty

That's so bizarre it's like they have their own currency because it's just so much they're getting for kicking around a ball.

Also, there's going to be an elite league called the Super League? I don't watch soccer, but that's something many are against for being immoral and unfair.

Whilst the sums are obviously eye watering, that is their share of the money they generate for their clubs. I’d rather the players themselves get a good share of the cash instead of the owners just raking it in.

Simple solution is to create a tax for the super rich, if we were also actually taxing world companies properly we could raise significant amounts to help fund public services.

Instead we just keep raising the tax for those who are working and struggling to survive.

This is a reflection on how much money fans pour into men's football (not women's football of course because they aren't offered these multi-million £ football contracts)...

Oil. That's the problem. This country is the number exporter of oil and can charge what they like and everyone pays up. No wonder they have more money than common sense.
