Frivolous Thing You Bought That Went to Waste?

Ask a Question

What's the most frivolous thing you've bought that has then gone to waste?

I've spent money on craft supplies and then not used them years later lol

SamGoodship - Materials. Years ago, I decided I was going to save money by making my own skirts. On the surface it look very simple to sew two pieces of material together. I couldn't get hold of a sewing machine and didn't factor in zip, threads and buttons. I gave up and store the materials into a plastic bag in my shed and last year put it into the recycling truck with other things I didn't want or need.

SamGoodship l went for the induction only, which was free 🤣, paid for a years membership and couldn't even be bothered with the wet side, (sauna, steam room & jacuzzi) and all the classes I could of gone to. Total waste of money, not like that now, my gym is walking with my dog for miles daily, gardening and generally running errands for all my neighbour's

I bought a Portable Massage Table so it could use for myself and my hubby. It was great for using for our aches and pains. We used it loads of times, but now it's stored in the conservatory. I feel guilty for spending a lot of money on something that's been stored away. Image

I usually buy a lot of camping stuff that, until now, has never been used. I’ve just started the process of selling a lot of my things that i bought but will not get round to enjoying.

If you go in my loft you will find the answer. Probably though I would say our collection of Christmas decorations, accumulated over many years. But due to change in garden out the front don’t come out anymore.

I haven't bought anything frivolous that doesn't get used, saying that I don't think I've bought anything frivolous. Everything we buy gets used and we always think before we buy something if we need it and how much we will use it.

I'm a bit like MrsCraig and like to think that I don't buy anything frivolous but i'm sure there is probably something that I can't quite think of at the moment.

HEDGEHOGS my mum used to buy loads of stuff, like kitchen gadgets that only got used once or twice and then sat in the cupboard. She used to have a hall cupboard full of stuff that was bought in the sales to be used as presents for people, it's still getting emptied out now. My mum loves a bargain, but has realised recently since trying to downsize that she has too much stuff. My dad is the exact opposite and I try to be like him when buying things.

I'm terrible if I see something very cheap I buy it with the intention of using it but then it ends up just being stored until I sell it on often at a small profit though. I've too much clutter for sure, a bit of a train wreck sadly but also I guess a revenue stream when I need it. I mean inflation vs savings interest means you can't really get ahead with a savings account. Better to buy cheap stuff and sell it at a profit really. Saving that most of what I sell I've hoarded away for decades. I've been clearing the loft at my mother's house, mainly old computers and AV literature and selling them on ebay and its made some decent money at times. That's stuff I mainly put up there as a teenager.

In contrast to that I have an old Fujipix Finepix Z900EXR camera. I think it came out in 2010/11 and I bought it secondhand about 5 years ago for £10. I bought it in brand new condition but I've used that so much. It does all my ebay images, I always have it in my backback as its a compact camera. It's now looking battered and scratched and I've take many 1000s of images with it. Probably at least 5,000 maybe as high as 10,000. It's a great feeling to make use of something and quite satisfying to wear something out. I'll certainly feel I've got my monies worth when it fails. I remember seeing a video overselling it on youtube from a shopping channel. It's good but not that good. I only mention the camera as its the complete opposite of the thread. Something I paid very little for that I use a huge amount and is quite important to me in my daily life.
