Glasses Insurance. Any Advice Please?

Ask a Question

MrsChimp's glasses cost around £300.

Does anyone know or how to insure them?

I have no clue, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm sorry I have no idea. Mr T and I both wear glasses and they cost about the same as Mrs Chimp's but we never insure them.

tumblespots Thanks for your reply.

MrsChimp is a bit clumsy, so I think that we best get insurance.

Sorry I have no idea how to insure them as I never gotten them insured but my other half used to pay that amount for his glasses from our local optician, but we have since found that Asda do two pairs of glasses for about £160 and they have designer frames too. And prescription sunglasses so we now just purchase from them now

If you buy from an opticians like specsavers you usually get a at least a years warranty , two with them

I don't know if this includes damage such as standing or sitting on them though , i doubt it

They also normally do an extended warranty if you want pay for extra years , but if your prescription changes so might your glasses

Here's the conditions off their website

I’ve stopped buying expensive glasses after misplacing a couple of pairs. I buy mine online now and have saved so much including transition lenses.

Pjran I used to save a fortune doing that, sadly I'm on varifocals now and they're just not that cheap even online😭😭😭

Jinky67 my husband has varifocal lenses in his glasses and I convinced him to try the online shop and he’s pleased. Less than £50 including delivery.

This is a total guess, but if you have house and contents insurance could you phone and see if they are covered? I am sure things like laptops are even when outside of home.

It seems everyone pays a lot for glasses but last month I got 2 for 1 at Specsavers and only paid £90.

You can get insurance for them from the optician that you bought them from. Or you can insure them under your home insurance but they need to be listed separately.

I’d maybe ask your optician for advice. It’s something I’ve never thought bout but think it’s worth thinking about especially with price of glasses these days. I’ve never heard of them being insured under contents insurance but think next time I change my glasses I’m going to ask my optician bout insurance cos glasses are so expensive and after having cataract surgery on both eyes (before I was 40) I wear varifocals and they’re pretty expensive never mind price of the frames

They should be covered under house insurance, but if you claim it'll put your fee up, so probably better just sucking up the cost.

Mine are usually 400+ but I’ve never insured them - didn’t think it was a thing but I guess it makes sense
