GMB Debate on Kissing Your dog...do You?

Other

I am not a dog owner but have a lot of love for my granddogs. However I draw a line on mouth to mouth kissing, in fact it makes me feel sick and I can't help thinking about where their tongue/mouth has been prior to a sloppy smooch. I was aghast at how many people do it and think it's ok.

blacklabrador yes I have done the odd head kiss when I am dogsitting and lots of cuddles when they jump up beside me.

Not mouth to mouth. Head yes or face but not the mouth.

Jerseydrew I have seen YouTubes of parents allowing their dogs to slobber all over newborns and often wonder why they would bother sterilising bottles, dummies etc.

No don't think its appropriate or necessary to kiss an animal, don't think it would have any meaning to them whatsoever, better off just stroking , playing with them or cuddling them.

Mango4 I must say I agree with you. I could be wrong but I think the gmb debate was 40/60, the majority against, but I am not sure.

A dog's mouth is full of germs and you can never totally trust a dog not to bite.A dog will not understand the significance of mouth kissing which should be reserved for humans.I love dogs and cats and a gentle pat on the head is all they need.🐩🐈‍⬛

SueWard I must admit, when I dogsit I do like it when they choose to sit beside me and I put my arm around them and gently stroke. They always let me know when they have had enough!

SueWard a human mouth is also full of germs🤷‍♀️

Jinky67 this does seem very strange because after a dog bite you must seek medical attention immediately because you can quickly get an infection.

I give my cat a little kiss on the head sometimes, at times he needs a lot of attention and re-assurance so give him a light cuddle and kiss sometimes as I'm totally soft when it comes to cats. Other times he is more on the violent or mischievous side and I certainly wouldn't kiss him on the head then I'd likely get a claw in my lip. He only likes attention on his terms.

Lynibis oh yes it's a personal choice my dog wouldn't harm a fly I was concerned when my oldest was born as I didn't know how the dog would be and I'll she did was sleep on the floor next to her while she slept lol

Leannexxx I think dogs have a very protective nature, though can't say same for all cats some can be quite jealous😁

Brother in law lets his dog lick him all over is head and face, makes me cringe and as he's deaf I dread to think what's in his ears, personally we think it's dog debris.

Lynibis GP/Nurse did a hearing test but never looked IN the ears (they don't hurt) and concluded he was going deaf. I keep saying "do you know what Jess uses her tongue for"? As a family we had dogs and rules, no licking, not on beds or furniture.

I love animals, but I wouldn't let one lick my face, let alone mouth to mouth. I may kiss one on top of the head but that's as far as it goes.

I would never do this as i don't know where mine last had her mouth and tongue

The same goes for sleeping arrangements

I cringe when i hear people have their pets in bed with them, especially if they have long hair

Even with the greatest care and treatments you never know what might be lurking under your dogs coat

Not just fleas, but we now have to worry about ticks more with climate change , and these can be deadly to humans and animals Image

I am always kissing my dogs on the top of their heads. Some people find it revolting but I love my 3. They mean more to me than some family members LOL !!!

I only kiss the top of their heads though !!!!!

Lynn, have you heard about that BBC zoologist who did horrible things to dogs?

Your thread reminded me of it. It's always one of BBC's people doing something weird.
