Are You a Good Passenger in a Car?

Ask a Question

Prefer to drive but as a passenger depends who is driving. I don’t mind either but some journeys are more comfortable then others.

I prefer to drive but don't mind on the odd occasion being a passenger if it's a driver of my choice 🤣.

I get sick of driving sometimes and like to be a passenger for a while. I always look forward to train or coach trips so I don't have to drive. Some city driving like Bristol is really stressful. I think I'm a good passenger as the fact I'm not driving puts me in a good mood. In the past I've known people who are terrible passengers yet have a history of crashes themselves because they are too fast and do dangerous overtaking but get annoyed when other people don't take risks overtaking and are more careful especially women. You only have to look at statistics of how many crashes are caused by BMW, Mercedes and Audi drivers and they are more likely to be driven by men. Men are from a safety viewpoint often the worst drivers because they take risks and are over-confident. I'm writing that as a man but it just seems the reality on the roads and backed up by the statistics.

I HATE driving. Really hate it, nothing happened, I just really hate it (well apart from the other week when someone swiped us from the side at the roundabout, he didn't want to stay in his lane and there was no where else for us to go! Which was something I don't want to experience again!)

It's not my capabilities I don't trust, it is the other drivers, their impatience too and their self assured road knowledge.

But even being a passenger recently is getting scary...

I never understood when my dad gave up driving after having several accidents, usually involving lorries. But when I passed my test, I understood. Driving just isn't for some people. It is super useful though!

I try not to comment on people's driving though, but my poor dad holds on to the grab handles, he's make me nervous if I was driving him. I drove him once and he was a great passenger for me. Maybe it depends who is driving 😂

I hate being a passenger as i drive busses for a job and i can see things happening so far in advance that the most normal drivers don't see as quick. I drive all the time even when friends want to go anywhere in there car, I tell them that i'm driving as i'm scared as a passenger.

One thing I love about being a passenger is when stuck in a big traffic jam I have zero stress myself, just sit back look at my phone etc, it is someone else's problem. Unless of course I'm trying to get to an appointment but if it is a leisure ride like a coach trip no problem. However if I'm in a traffic jam at the wheel I get really inpatient and annoyed, thinking of the fuel being wasted etc.

I’m not a bad passenger and I don’t mind driving but as I do it every day it’s nice to be driven around now and again

Although I can drive I don't do so very often. I'm much happier in the passenger seat.

I’m usually ok. Only now and again I get frustrated by the driver - but I appreciate that it’s my role to be a good passenger, as driving itself can be stressful
