Guidelines about Chat on LD
Other
- "We want the chat section to be a fun, friendly place where members can talk with each other. With that in mind we do have some guidelines to keep things running smoothly:
- Originality: Please keep new topics original. Have a search before you create something and check that there isn’t already a topic discussing what you want to talk about. If we find a similar existing topic then we’ll remove the duplicate or merge the two."
There is also a ban on religion and politics but at least 5 brexit topics have been posted recently. Repeats are very common too. And yes, I have mentioned repeat topics before but still they continue and sometimes it is hard to find an interesting chat thread because you have already replied to another post in the same vein. Maybe points should only be awarded once 3 replies have been garnered, rather like three likes.
Update - Chat guidelines can be found here

Hey Lynibis
You've actually uncovered our new guidelines we published just yesterday.
Our plan is to announce them officially shortly and also have them "stickied" to the top of the chat section so that people can easily see them.
From that point we'll look to enforce the guidelines more actively. They're quite hidden away at the moment (and didn't properly exist until yesterday!) but hopefully everyone will be more aware of them shortly.
We've also taken on board and currently quite like the idea of rewarding active topics (those with, say, 3+ replies) with points rather than rewarding every topic. It's something we're definitely considering
Thanks for your post Kelsey. I didn't realise they were new guidelines lol! Glad I wasn't speaking out of turn because it is really nice when a good topic really takes off and everyone has a good old chat.
just a thought - perhaps you should not reward for the 'help' topics at all? as what you might find is you will get is a lot of similar 'help' questions, and lots of people responding to those to be of help, which trends ths topic straight away. And maybe when you start the chat topic, you ought to select the category first before you enter the remaining details - so 'help' will pop up with some FAQs immediately. As it currently is, the person will probably complete an entire post with the heading and lots of info, making lots of effort, but then select the category at the end to find their topic may not be permitted, particularly if it is a 'help' question
I noticed the duplicate topics too. I don't reply on the duplicate if I have already answered one previous post and I don't respond to the religious or political posts as it causes too many arguments and I can't be bothered with it! I'm glad there are new rules.
Some topics have no thought put into them and are posted purely to up points total. If you take the trouble to reply the poster often ignores your comment, which defeats the object of 'chat'. Some posts ask questions that can easily be answered on the site or by a quick Google search. I am first to admit my own posts do not set chat on fire, but I do not post two a day to only fulfil my points limit.
Lynibis I have only ever posted once on chat and it was to get advice. I don't post just to get the points either.
Lynibis I agree Lynibis, I also think that posts are made simply yo boost the points total and not to really chat.
It might be a good idea to not comment on threads that are blatant duplicates or silly subjects that are obviously point gatherers, but then why would the poster mind as they have got the points and it doesn't matter if they get nil replies
I have noticed that a lot of the time, people start a chat topic asking a question. Something that can easily be found out by doing a quick Google search.
I agree. That sort of stuff is better suited to something like Facebook. Not a deals website.
