Guy Who Lost HDD with BTC worth Millions is Still after It

I've seen this story many times over the years, and he still hasn't given up. 
It is a lot of money, but good luck getting it back.
I'm split on this as part of me admires his tenacity and encourages him to continue but another part of me just thinks that he's lost too much of life in pursuit of this, and to just let it go. Work the story angle into a book then sell the movie rights, which would make him millions anyway.

martinlufc5637 Let's suppose he finds it, it's possible it'd be damaged and unsalvageable. It's just too late.
He should have acted as soon as possible... Not so darningly later.
PhilipMarc it would have to damaged and unusable after all the time, just moisture alone would damage it irreversible
He could offer to buy the section of the landfill where he thinks it is , whether the council would allow that either is another question , but talk about looking for a needle in a haystack
He would have more chance of flying to Mars than recovering it
There’s been a fair few of these over the years and i haven’t heard of anyone actually managing to track down their hard drives with the bitcoin on. Must be horrible though, they have basically won the lottery but lost their ticket.
As others have mentioned, it will be beyond salvageable by now.
Especially as (because of the age) it will be an older mechanical hard drive rather than a Solid State Drive.
I don’t blame him. If I’d lost a huge amount like that I would probably try everything to get it back.
