What Should You Do If Your Regular Hairdresser Retires?
Ask a Question
Do you always go to the same hairdresser?
I'm 58 now and have been having my hair done by the same lady since I was 17 and she was 19. I go every 6 weeks for a colour & cut, and can count on one hand the number of times someone else has done it, like when she was on maternity leave, had an operation etc.
I hate to think what I'd do if I couldn't go to her any more!
Yes, I have been going to mine for about 30 years. He is the only one who can handle my thick frizzy hair. We always have a good catch up and I registered his two children. He also knew my son when he did a stint in the same salon age 16, he is 49 now.
No, I'm terrible when it comes to my hair as I end up waiting months to get it cut again. So I visit our local college and get it cut. The lady who runs the salon is lovely and always watching over the students.
I've been going to my lovely lady for over 10 years now and we get on so well together, wouldn't change her for the world.
I haven't been to a hairdressers since I was pregnant with my son and my MIL and Granny treated me to a haircut. That was 5 years ago now. I am not that fussy about my hair, as long as it is clean and it gets cut when it needs it I don't care who does it.
I very rarely have my hair done.
I dye it myself at home rarely too, it makes me feel better, helps with my scalp conditions, but it suits my skin tone better, otherwise I look like I’m related to the Addams family and I don’t wish to fake tan, plus don’t see why I should have to.
I usually check to see if there are any students that need models, usually a free model, then I offer up my head/hair. I do tip them usually though but £2-£5.
We used to have a regular hairdresser that came to our house as it was only around £25, I got a shock when I went to a hairdressers to find out most of the time they are £50-£60 here! (My partner’s step dad paid for me to have my hair and nails done when I went to stay with them and the prices were super cheap compared to the south!)
I’m considering trying a new hairdresser in the area soon, just for a tidy up. I did consider attempting it myself but I’m not that brave haha.
Hair can change a whole look, but it can usually grow back. I shaved it off for charity once. I didn’t mind it too much, people said it suited me too. Sadly those that didn’t know me treated me as if I was ill. So it was people’s reactions and the way I was treated that was upsetting to me, not the fact I lost my hair. Plus I donated my hair and raised money for cancer charity, so that was very much worth it!
Always good to support students and colleges where you can. They have to learn at some point and sometimes the better cuts, as they are new and go by the books and usually have someone checking their work. Plus it is usually discounted or free. It just might take a little longer.
Mines my cousin. I dread to think who I'd go to. Been going to her forever. I'm not precious or go regularly but my daughter goes. I can get anyone to deliver her and not worry about what's going to happen as I know my cousin or the her colleagues won't let her walk looking stupid. Relief to my dad when he has taken her and I say just deliver the child they know what to do
I don't understand why the big deal is myself I get my hair done by all different hairdressers at the end of the day if it goes wrong it's gonna grow back
