Should Halloween Be a Bank Holiday?
Ask a Question
Should Halloween become a bank holiday?
A third of people think we deserve a day off to celebrate, with some even preferring it to Christmas! But with eight bank holidays already, is there room for one more?

Of course not! I don’t think industry can afford more bank holidays. Next you’ll suggest your birthday
SamGoodship I didn’t mean to offend you, just a joke about birthdays being bank holiday. The hospitality trade always work bank holidays
No. If people want they day off, surely they can use a day of their leave for this. We are lucky to get so many holidays.
Don’t talk so bloody soft! It’s bad enough we’ve adopted the over the top Americanised tradition!
No American rubbish, where children go out begging for a few sweets, don’t believe in it at all
Definitely Not!
Just another over Americanised Traditional Day getting Ruined by commercialisation.
SamGoodship Aye the Old Traditional Halloween, Not this Greedy Feeding Frenzy from the Big Supermarkets Profiteering from any excuse to make a Quick Buck.
Would love. J love Halloween and we don't get enough bank holidays. Only thing is it could encourage Halloween trouble makers to be more annoying
No of course Halloween should not, it was copied from the USA, if anything patron saints should be, only in NI do they get a bank holiday.
No way should it be a Bank Holiday, it been brought over from America and made a thing by the big stores just to make money. When I was a kid it was no big deal.
Definitely not, I think we have enough bank holidays already. People are already going down to a four day week. At this rate no one will be working.
No it should not be a bank holiday. If you want the day off for Halloween then take a day off but it should not be a bank holiday. Halloween wasn't a big deal when I was a kid. You saw costumes 2 weeks before hand, limited decorations for parties and it was barely advertised on TV and you asked the neighbours first if the kids could come round and at what time. Can't stand Halloween anyway but it has become just another money making scheme.
No. It's slipped into the American way of treat or trick, a major money con, much like Christmas where the true meaning of the day has been lost. What happened to dressing up in whatever made you look like a witch or ghost and making a guy and turnip lantern before knocking on local doors asking for "penny for the guy" all in readiness to spend the cash on fireworks for 5 November. If people want 31st they'll want 5 November next.
I think that there is too much made of Halloween and it is another occasion when parents feel obliged to spend money as the children want to keep up with their friends. DIY costumes can be fun but it easy to spend on the rubbish for sale in the shops.
No absolutely not! Why just why??
We get more than enough bank holidays as it is without anymore, how on earth are businesses meant to survive, as bank holidays maybe mean double time, time and a half. No!
No I disagree, why on earth would Halloween even be considered for a bank holiday. Nothing English/ traditional or anything. Just greedy people wanting more days off! Definitely St George’s day at least celebrated more than paddy’s day but no!
American colonists are responsible for initially bringing Halloween to the United States. Most of the colonists were English Puritans who celebrated Samhain before traveling to their new Country. Although the Celtic religious traditions had long been replaced by Christianity, many of the old practices remained.
No, it’s just another highly commercialised day. Just enjoy it over the weekend, like with most occasions
Definitely no. It shouldn’t even be a thing. Just a massive marketing ploy to rinse us of our cash
I don't think it should . I personally don't like Halloween, and I know many others that don't. We have enough bank holidays in a year in my opinion
It's never going to happen and nor should it. A ridiculous idea reported in a ridiculous publication (Daily Star) that reads like it has been sponsored by ASDA.
