What Can We Do to Help Pensioner relatives giftwise?

I personally do not know any pensioners who have to choose between eating/heating and in order to help those that do it is a case of finding them. So many are housebound without relatives and probably dont even know their neighbours.
But for those of us with elderly relatives we can think carefully of what gifts we give them for birthdays and Christmas. Even if they can get by it is nice to have 'extras' so they don't have to penny pinch.
Supermarket gift cards that can be used online or instore. If relatives club together this could be a goodly amount.
How about a heated blanket that costs pennies to run?
A thermos flask that can be full of tea, coffee or soup so only one use of kettle or saucepan.
Alternative to gift card, a hamper full of goodies and treats they may not buy for themselves.
What can you think of or would like to receive to save money?
If they are not housebound i think a nice birthday , anniversary or christmas gift would be a short holiday
The family could possibly club together to get a full board holiday in spain or other reasonably priced holiday resort, somewhere warm , where everything could be done for them
Then they would not have to worry about heating the home for a week or two or cooking
Our family did this twice for our mum and dad when they were alive
If the family is only small then i appreciate this might not be an option as it could work out too expensive

I am sure a family member would do the airport drop off , its better if it is an evening flight or weekend if not too expensive as they possibly won't be working then
Club together and get a weekly delivery of certain foods you know they like but wont buy because of the price. If they have an open fire you could get logs or coal. You would probably find if you gave them cash they would save it for bills.
You can get heated blankets - like the ones for a bed but its softer material and more like a throw. If they are on a gas or electricity pre payment metre put extra money on those. Matching warm fluffy dressing gowns - but tell them they are housecoats. My nan wouldn’t wear her dressing gown until i convinced her it was a new sort of housecoat. A regular delivery of fish and chips - it’s incredible how what used to be a cheap tea has got so expensive. X
suevernon1968 such good ideas. One son bought me a thick furry ankle length dressing gown with a good and I wear it over my clothes. The other son bought me the heated blanket, I have used them both loads.
I am certainly not a pensioner but I enjoy getting a practical gift. I love getting gift sets of shower gel or face cream. Even a hamper full of foods I use is gratefully received.
We bought my parents a dinner out at a fancy restaurant and a hotel stay for their Christmas a few years ago. They absolutely loved it. They would never have done it for themselves.
I remember mentioning to my mother in law that I needed to buy more socks and next thing I knew there was a delivery of socks at my door.
We used to send my husbands Granny gifts regularly so she could have a treat and it always cheered her up.
I think given up our time to spend an hour or two with isolated lonely neighbours.Taking some nice cake or biccies and making them tea in their own place.Even just being present and watching a programme with them,
I would definitely would get the heated blanket and throw, they can have the throw over them on sofa. Then the heated blanket to keep warm at night. Must inform of use though, not needed on higher especially the bed one.
What a lovely thoughtful idea! Yes an electric blanket would be a good thing with all the price increases
