Henry or Shark?

Ask a Question

I need a new hoover. I’ve had my old Henry for years and it’s started to play up and isn’t as good as it was. I have 3 hairy dogs, mostly wooden flooring downstairs carpet everywhere else. I’m undecided whether to get another Henry or an upright shark hoover.

All suggestions/advice gratefully received

Thanks.

I find Henry and Hetty cumbersome appliances to drag around and they look so old fashioned. I love my cordless shark, it is light and easy to use and one click to separate the hand held piece. You can tell how effective it is by the amount of fluff etc in the bin even after one use.

Lynibis I love my henry but I have to agree with you mine is getting on a bit now so I will be looking at shark ones myself at some point

Leannexxx I had a gtech before the shark, it was good but not as good as Shark. Keep an eye out for deals as they are very expensive.

Lynibis I have loved my Henry but I agree he is somewhat cumbersome. I have tried a shark and was pleasantly suprised

I HATE HENRY. He is awful. Especially since they were forced to cut his suction power. Can't go wrong with a Shark.

I left a job because I was forced to use a Henry. That should tell you everything. I'm a cleaner and he's the worst thing ever invented unless you're a workman needing to pick up dust and rubble

My mother in law is a cleaner and she absolutely loves her Henry. We have a shark which I love, very lightweight.

Shark. Prefer it to a Henry. Had a Henry for years but wouldn't go back to it now

Upright Shark vs Henry seems like two different types of vacuums. Most people get uprights because they want a powered head for cleaning carpets. Typically the Henry isn't as good with carpets especially long pile carpets as doesn't have a powered head I think. Henry's are robust and last for years, they take a lot of abuse and it seems like every tradesman has one. Also for commercial cleaning you still see a lot of Henry's. The Shark is probably a better option for general house use although I'm personally not that impressed with them. There are a lot more vacuum brands out there than just Shark and Numatic. You can still have look in Currys and compare vacuums and then buy elsewhere where its cheaper. Personally I prefer mains operation over cordless. It's cheaper, more reliable, has a better lifespan and typically more powerful. Every cordless vacuum reduces in power as it ages as lithium-ion cells lose capacity as they age.

Neither for me. I have always had Dysons and never had any problems. I had dogs and purchased the dog grooming attachment. That worked well and the dogs loved it.

eyeballkerry I hadn’t thought of a Dyson ! Also didn’t know that there is a dog grooming attachment.. thank you I’ll look in to that.

reannsgran obviously they do cost more than a shark or a Henry, but like they say, you get what you pay for. I have read people’s reviews on here for the shark. I would definitely do research before purchasing one of those.

Our last 2 Hoover's have been sharks, the first one worked really well, then problems, they honoured the guarantee with replacement motor ect..they have a short work life in my opinion

martinlufc5637 my Mum has a shark and it’s ok at her house but it’s just her there so not much mess gets made. My house is often like a mad house with my grandchildren and my dogs !!!!

I did wonder about the life span.

We have a Shark hoover and can't fault it, previous to that it was a Dyson but wouldn't touch that brand again, nothing but problems and lost suction over time.

I have always had a Dyson up to 6 months ago and bought a shark purely on price, it's the best thing ever ever. Can't recommend it enough

Prefer Henry for dog hair and sucking cobwebs down from corners and just generally getting into awkward areas - we have 2 upstairs and downstairs Henry 😬

Henry is great for stairs and getting in awkward places. Also great for getting cobwebs, I’ve got a few today with my old Henry.

We have 2 Henry hoovers but I'm personally not a fan of them. Looking to go back to an upright vacuum soon
