Holidaymakers Face Big Rise in Car Hire Costs Abroad This Summer

In the News

People planning to hire a car abroad this summer face having to pay more than 70% that they did before the coronavirus pandemic.

It is all down to supply and demand as has happened previously and also staffing , extra insurance costa and more expensive vehicles

It might be cheaper to drive your own car over using euro tunnel or a ferry at these rates , but then you are hit with extra fuel costs amongst other things

Also i believe the governments of some countries are going to introduce emission zones too as in London and you will need to purchase a sticker depending on the age and fuel you are using in your vehicle , so yet another problem with driving over to Europe, i dont know how this will work with rentals

It seems they are doing this to get all fossil fuel vehicles off the road and over to EVs

I think people are just using Brexit , Covid and Ukraine as a big nasty excuse for over charging for everything. There. Said it now.

If you live where getting your car abroad abroad is a mission it's unfair. Where I live it's a mission to get to and away. Tourists hire cars because its easier. we've had a loss of hotels and it's expensive as it is putting hire prices up is just going to make tourists not want to go. Its a shame as its great here and could be a really busy place with long weekend getaways but it's cheaper to go to mainland Europe for a week thern here for 3 days.

Jerseydrew I dread to think how it will be when we are made to go all electric, you will probably see EVs everywhere out of charge , including the hire vehicles unless they can vastly improve the batteries and install many more charging points, which are in themselves extortionate
