Iceland Hides Special Cards in Store to Give Mums FREE Food for a Year

Money Saving

The V.I.C or Very Important Chick cards are hidden in stores from today and are aimed at mums to help families

Mums are being urged to look out for little black cards when shopping in Iceland – to win a YEAR'S supply of food.

From today (15 May), the retailer is hiding the black V.I.C or Very Important Chick cards in stores across the country, giving shoppers the chance to grab one at random.

The card – similar in size and appearance to a debit or credit card – can be used to purchase frozen chicken products. There are 215 products to choose from including Iceland branded food and those from its partnerships such as My Protein and TGIF.

The cards are valid for a year from the date found, which means huge savings for families can be made.

I have just seen this news story and wondered how it would work, then I read one store was trashed as customers tried to find the cards. Probably wasn’t the best idea.

eyeballkerry I don't think they realise how desperate people really are and what they will do do get hold of one of the cards!

What a strange promotion and its not just mums that are feeling the pinch with regard finances so is it open to everyone or just mums. Very confusing. Iceland is actually quite expensive for a lot of shopping nowadays. They have too much big brand goods in my opinion.

BonzoBanana I would have thought anyone who finds it can claim the 'win'?

You are right about prices though. We went there a couple of weeks ago as I had defrosted the freezer and I was shocked by how expensive they were.

Iceland seem very obsessed with just mums doing the shopping. I like the idea in principle but maybe it should've been aimed at anyone. Everyone is struggling regardless of whether you are a mum/have a family (even though it may be the case anyone can actually win). Good luck if you are looking for one

KirstyWhit29673 You are so right, they should have directed it at anyone who does shopping. They are jumping on a band wagon without checking the details fully enough.

I thought it was a good idea in part. But people are going to cause problems in store trying to find the cards. Calling women chicks I think is abit outdated too. Plus like people say what about people with out kids that are struggling. Or even Dad's that are bringing kids up by themselves. It's all abit confusing.

KAW18 Yes, it wasn't completely thought through although I think the 'chick' bit might also be a bad reference to winning a years free chicken? I think Iceland should get some new marketing dept!

tumblespots - I was in Iceland earlier this morning and the store was almost empty. I assume nobody knows about this promotion. It is totally unfair.

jam45 Hardly much of a promotion then! Did you know about before you went and if so did you have a good ferret around for one of the cards? Did you find one??

Just a cheap marketing stunt, just 5 cards hidden , when they actually have over 800 stores,. Fair paly to their marketing team thou its a clever way to get cheap publicity .

Mango4 I think this could backfire badly on them though if there are only 5 cards!!

In these hard times anything like this that a big company does is to be commended.

tumblespots yeah i agree but there’s loads of companies simply doing nothing or actively taking advantage of people’s poor situations. At least iceland are doing something

The problem with anything like this is that a rich person is just as likely to find one as a person in real need. Surely it is better to help those who have some sort of proof of being on benefits.

Lynibis Yes, it is far too indiscriminate, and probably just a gimmick really. Mango4 says there are only 5 cards to be found 🤔 so not many people have any chance of finding one anyway.
