I'm Shocked To See That The Plant-Based Whopper At Burger King Is Cooked.......
Other
I've just seen this and now I'm wondering how safe Vegetarians and Vegans are when they buy from a Take Away or eat in a restaurant where there is meat!
Vegans, be warned however, the Plant-Based Whopper is cooked on the same grill as the meat burgers available at the fast-food chain.
To me this is not surprising, I’m not a vegan myself but I definitely respect the choice. Sadly i think a lot of the people who do cook in takeaways don’t really get the big deal and wouldn’t care.
That's really surprising as for a long time they were the only fast food place that had a vegetarian option. It looks like it's just the whopper that is cooked on the same broiler and so therefore isn't vegan but there other stuff is OK.
Midnightflower Yes but that's one product too many, and why do it, how many people actually know that happens, that's the thing, it's an awful thing to do and totally unnecessary and how do we know now that other stuff is ok?
JoTarpley I found the info on the burger king website. We were just trying to work out why they are doing it that way, my OH is chef and is now on one, as a broiler doesn't produce flames apparently so he doesn't understand why they're using it in the first place. He's saying you would use a char grill and could use grill mapping where certain sections are used for different products which apparently is still classed as vegan. So we have no idea why.
Midnightflower I saw Martin Lewis mention it.
Oooooh a Chef! Does that mean he spoils you with his cooking then?
JoTarpley it's lovely as long as you don't want to diet, as he's a big fan off butter and cream Burger king really should make it much clearer that it's not vegan or there will be many angry vegetarians and vegans to deal with.
My opinion is that if you are vegetarian, or especially vegan, the first thing you should do is not buy from a burger chain. Personal opinion of course, but eating in such a place goes against your vegetarian/vegan principles.
Not because they sell meat burgers, but because of the way they harvest it, damaging animals, producers and the environment.
I worked at Subway and we have to use different knifes to cut the sandwiches for vegetarians and vegans had no issue with what I didn't like was that they was trying to tell me how to do my job I used a green knife to cut there sandwich and one kicked off saying yellow knife was for vegetarians and vegans so I was polite after this woman continue to go on with herself and said yup I do know my job thank you very much but as are yellow knife is broken to a point we can't use it we are using this green one till a new one comes in delivery tomorrow is that a issue??? She said oh really my apologies told her to stick it where the sun doesn't shine
Subway as mentioned I think is one of the better ones I've never had a problem with them always good with changing gloves and equipment ect. But yeah most places fast food that cater to the masses don't separate, best to cook yourself or go places that are vegan or vegetarian specifically
I think some don't have the time and facilities especially if it's a fast paced burger place but you can always check on their website FAQs. McDonald's said they cook their vegan mcplant burger separately from the meat ones. I See greggs using separate serving tools for the veg food.. usually it's green spatula for vegetarian food and red for anything with meat inside
Last year Burger King trialed a pop-up all vegan menu in their flagship branch in Leicester Square. Plus, they are aiming to have a '50% meat-free menu by 2030'. But, they are going to have to retrain staff and have a separate cooking area for plant based food (or have a number of all vegan/vegetarian branches - similar to Pret) if they want to meet that target. Most long term vegans and vegetarians, rather than flexitarians, don't like the large fast food burger chains. A lot would need to change to get them through the doors.
It's always been like this. People think those asking for vegan food is because they are a pain in the backside. It's dangerous to do this because some will go for it because of food allergies. Same as those who ask for gluten free food or nut free. While some can't kill others can.
If your that much of a die hard vegan then why would you eat somewhere that predominantly sells meat anyway
