I'm Thinking Of Buying An Air Fryer Oven Off Amazon But Advice Needed Please
Ask a Question
I'm Thinking Of Buying An Air Fryer Oven Off Amazon, I've seen one that I think is quite good, it's an XL and costs £159, I can't see that I get any type of guarantee with it, although I could pay extra to buy one it seems, my energy bill is horrendous already and just gone up again and that's the idea behind this buy, but what if it breaks in 3 months, am I covered at all, it's a big layout, where do I stand, can anyone help please?
If its an XL model doesn't that slightly defeat the point of it. The smaller air fryers have smaller elements and smaller baskets so there is less area to heat which makes them more economical. Might be worth comparing the wattage of the models you are considering, the ability to cook a larger meal may mean extra costs when not cooking such a large meal.
I've got a manual Phillips air fryer with mechanical timer and simple rotary dial for temperature. I've had it about 14 years and still going strong, its built like a tank and think it cost about £70. Halogen ovens can be unreliable due to the bulbs but I think a good quality air fryer should last a long time.
BonzoBanana I think you misread my posting, it's an Airfryer Oven, not an Airfryer with a basket, and it's 20L, I've already had a Halogen Oven and it's not what I want, I wanted to know about the guarantee but thanks anyway.

I'm not sure that the "oven type " airfryers would be a great investment . The heat will escape (as in a normal fan oven . The attraction for me of the basket type airfryers is they are far easier to clean . No such thing as an airfyer by the way, they are all mini fan ovens in effect .
Having said that I always advise members NOT to purchase a "compact" one (1.5litre to 3 litres) all they are good for is a handful of chips .
Consider what you want to cook in it and how much room you need , check the dimensions . A 4.5 litre size is fine for 1 person perhaps 2 (to cook a full meal ) . For 3 or 4 you need a 6 litre or larger . I would even recommend going into a Currys or similar , not to buy but to see the actual size .
Think what you will be cooking in it and whether it will fit . If a 6 litre model is big enough then you can get one for £60 - £90 if you look around . Argos , AO , Currys etc all sell them ,always with at least a 1 year warranty ,often with 2 or 3 years .
They aren't magic in terms of energy saving - perhaps half the price of a normal fan oven . Saves me as I live alone (perhaps 40p ,1kwh , per day ) .
Glad you are thinking it through too many members think "Air Fryer" great , buy a tiny 2litre
one then realise it is useless for their requirements .
Golfforall I've already got a large Tefal Airfryer and I've also got a large Range type cooker with one side cooking ordinary and the other side being a fan oven, I'm trying to find out about what type of guarantee you get buying electrical items off Amazon where I wanted to use Amazon Vouchers, that is why I'm not considering Argos or anywhere else but thanks anyway!
JoTarpley To be sure . get on chat with Amazon and ask them directly . Should be at least 1 year (if not 2 years) manufacturers warranty . But always best to double check . Just looked up the company www.gionar.com/ They appear to be a Chinese leather company . Maybe better to find an alternative ?
JoTarpley You will get at least one year warranty from the date of purchase, if buy it using vouchers you will receive a credit voucher towards a replacement to purchase another one, you will then have another 1 year warranty for your replacement, in effect you could get a new one every year with your vouchers.
Golfforall Air fryers are meant to circulate the oil/fat particles around as the smaller area and stronger fan is meant to create some sort of turbulance that moves the small around of oil and fat around, hence you can put in raw chips and a spoonful of oil and get proper cooked chips come out which you wouldn't get with a conventional fan oven. So there is a difference.
Not sure what the Phillips I have is in capacity but its the original air fryer design but its enough for 2 to 4 people I think they claim and you can place a standard quiche in the bottom of the basket (just). I'd say it was a good size for meals for 1 or 2 people but probably not for a family of 4 but really it depends what you are cooking in it. Mine would do a very generous amount of chips for 2 people.
We bought a bread maker 6 months ago through Amazon and Amazon provided the bread maker (It wasn't sent from the company).
It went wrong a few weeks ago and I wrote to the company, as we had registered the year warranty on their website, which was a waste of time as they didn't respond for almost a week and then the response wasn't helpful!
In the meantime I contacted Amazon and because it was provided by them they replaced it the next day. Result!
So I would be looking at who is actually sending you the item as my experience above was very positive. I wouldn't buy another electrical item if Amazon weren't posting me the item themselves.
I hope this helps with Amazon back up.
tumblespots Thanks very much, that's really good advice, I'm glad you got a good result, I just hope whatever I buy doesn't go wrong in a few months like you, I guess it's always the risk with electrical items whatever the brand though! x
Look at who is sending you the item. If it is Amazon they will process a replacement themselves. In terms of an airfryer oven, the tower airfryer ovens are really good and are a good size too.

You will find loads of info here Jo. I too am looking to buy one and a couple of friends highly recommend Cosori. My son has asked me a couple of times of I like theirs and would I use one so am thinking I may get one for my birthday next week!
I think most electrical items come with at least 1 year guarantee, would be extremely surprised if it didn't.
Lynibis Hi Lyn, thanks very much, I hope you are ok!
I just had a look at the Cosori ones and found the top 5 here
and then this link came up for a 'deal of the day' that finishes in 8 hours, more information for you to take in

omg there are sooo many different types on the market, good luck! x
There was one on a shopping channel last week but i cannot remember which channel, its was a combo air fryer and pressure cooker , oven etc all in one, i think it was around £150
If i didnt already have an air fryer i would consider this
I found a link listing some combos, hope it helps
Bought an air fryer from Wilko five years ago for £30 very similar to a basic Tower one. It's capacity is probably no more than 2 litres but has been absolutely fine for me and on occasions two people at a push. Still going strong although the minutes have worn off the dial, but still remember where to turn it there or thereabouts.
No probs J, i just wish i could remember that shopping channel, i was channel surfing and only stopped there for a few minutes
Did you decide on an air fryer oven Jo? I mistakenly missed the oven bit and thought you wanted a bog standard air fryer. I have finally ordered mine and went for the 3.8L Cosori I am sure it will be big enough for just me, as I took a look at some in Currys and they looked fine. I also ordered an air fryer cookbook. We will have to share our favourite recipes when we are up and running.
Lynibis Yes I bought this one Lyn, I thought it was a good buy and it's 20 litre which is a good size but I'm struggling with the settings and how to cook what on which setting, the book that came with it, as usual, is pretty rubbish, I need to look around and see if I can find a video on YouTube or something but I'm multi-tasking every day and it's hard work, I just need more time, but I'll let you know when I get sorted, thanks for asking! x
JoTarpley I also wondered which one you finally chose. When you're confident with it's functions, start another thread for air fryer recipes so that others can share ones that have been tried and tested. I've had a fryer for a couple of years and had some 'interesting' results in the early stages.... I still haven't tried hard-boiled eggs in it but have heard good feedback.
