ITV Wasting Money , so Annoying

Other

There may be a good reason (I can't for the life of me see it), but why do presenters have to be flown to exotic locations in order to plug a competition prize, or even the weather?

Andi Peters and his colleagues are constantly abroad staying in hotels, splashing the cash, airplane flights (which they lecture VIPs for doing). Weather presenters travel the length and breadth of GB, and of course these trips require hotels, the transport of crew and equipment too.

Considering the rubbish programmes currently on tv, as a viewer I would sooner that money be spent on a good drama. Outside of London for showing off cars, campers etc but the rest does not seem necessary to me.

I totally agree it's a waste of money and we are the ones told to stop being wasteful.

Jerseydrew yes people with money can carry on with their wasteful ways while us plebs have to keep cutting back and reducing our carbon footprint.

Maybe it's a case of people see them in these far off exotic locations and think that could be me if I enter the competition. As for the weather presenters, I just assumed it was so they could promote a certain place. It is definitely wasting money but I doubt they will listen to our opinion on it.

MrsCraig are people really that silly though. I often daydream what I would do with the money and it is never cars or glamourous holidays.

Lynibis yes I think some people genuinely do think that way. I agree that I daydream too, I would put the money into paying off my mortgage.

MrsCraig I am lucky enough to have paid off mine but then I'm lots older than you lol. I would share it equally between myself and my two sons and my share would pay for a new dream kitchen.

Lynibis we will hopefully have ours paid off in the next 15 years. I'm sure your sons would be very grateful to be given a lump sum.

It's just promotion of the competitions which will get more people to enter, and the extra money generated from extra entries will more than cover the cost

TheChimp maybe I am unusual but I wouldn't decide whether or not to enter a comp based on the promotion location. There are loads of locations near to London, (Beaulieu, Hampton Court etc) that would suffice. Any extra money could go to runner up prizes.

Actually I was thinking they must raise at least £500,000 from these comps so around 6 million per year and I really don't feel they should spend on foreign travel for so many when they tell us we should be responsible for saving the planet.

Yeah i know exactly what you’re saying but at least only a small amount of the licence fee goes to itv (i think?) so i don’t mind so much. It’s when the bbc sends a million people to cover the olympics etc that i get annoyed cause they keep putting up the licence fee

ITV are funded by advertising so to be honest I don't care what they do. It's not like the BBC where many people keep their TV license because they are worried about the legal implications of cancelling it and then you read of the BBC wasting huge sums or paying themselves huge pensions that there is a shortfall to making those payments so the TV licence money is used to pay for those shortfalls in payments. Of course as I don't have a TV licence I rarely see Andi Peters on TV anyway especially if its a live show that isn't streamed. I have seen him pushing a competition on GMTV or something in the past when away from home but can't remember much about it. Seems like the format of competition has been going on for many years.

I don’t understand why they do it. Use a green screen if you want a lovely background. Sometimes the prize has nothing to do with location.
