Ideal World Shopping Channel In Administration

In the News

It took me a while to look and see where Ideal World had gone, after suddenly disappearing off the TV, only to find out that it had gone bust, laying off I think, around 175 staff, did you ever buy anything from them, are you sad that they have gone?

Never heard of them tbh, i have watched a few shopping channels in the past and it always surprises me what some people will buy.

Shame for the 175 staff as it’s not a good time to be out of work atm

jms19 Really? I think it launched in 2,000 and I found out later it had 275 staff, not 175, who have mostly lost their jobs, they wanted to be the English version of QVC, which is American.

I think it's sad really, all the effort and organisation that must go into broadcasting a shopping channel 18 hours a day, they must all be so gutted! x

I occasionally watch the shopping channels when there is nothing else on tv, but have never bought anything from them. I've seen Ideal World before on the shopping channels but never noticed they were gone.

MrsCraig I've watched them a few times in the past, usually when channel hopping, not to actually buy anything, I just found it so amusing that they could talk for such a length of time about one item! 😂 x

I have heard of them, never purchased from them but then I have not purchased from similar companies either. Still sad a company has gone and people have lost jobs

ch7leach Yes it always sad and don't forget the large customer base these online shopping channels have too, at least QVC and Ideal World are trustworthy names in that industry, these Jewellery ones should be avoided like the plague! x

I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner as everyone can shop online these days.

I've purchased quite a lot of things from ideal world, all at very reasonable price. It's such a shame that they've bust. Thanks for the information.

Sad news for staff laid off but a lot of what they sold is rubbish and well. Overpriced. We can buy now days off the Internet and in person at the shops stores. But sadly due to the cost of living ect high rents there will be many more shops. Closing

I've heard of but never shopped with Ideal World. My mum used to use Price Drop Tv years ago until they went under. She had quite a few nice ornaments from them.

I cannot understand why people would even consider buying jewellery and watches online. What is wrong with going to a well known jewellery shop, Currys, Argos to see the different types of goods available?

The only thing I've bought from a shopping channel which I think was this one was a Harlem Jackal bicycle which was about £60 in clearance. It wasn't very good but I sold it for about £75 about a year later. It had very fetching gold paintwork. I also bought a Amazon firestick from QVC and that was very cheap thanks to a new customer discount voucher. It was a 4K model that normally sells for £40-50 for £20-25 if I remember rightly. When channel hopping I do occasionally see such channels nowadays but normally the value is very poor.
