Jam Jar Lids: Where to Recycle Them?

Ask a Question

Where do you recycle them? I read that you keep them on the glass jars when you take them to recycle at glass bottle banks

What’s the point cause the glass jars gets shattered when they are dropped inside the recycling banks

Thought the jam jar lids can be placed on green recycling bins guess you cannot do that

Our pink recycling sacks are for glass, cardboard/paper and metal so I put them in with the jam jars but lid off.

Lynibis we don’t have that

Either black bins for foods and other waste and green bin for recycling

Took glass jars to recycle at glass bottle banks

The lids I binned them

Wash your Jar then put the lid back on and throw It In your green recycling bin. It always gets picked up. It will tell you on your local council website whats allowed and whats not.

Emerge11 Yeah I checked not allowed glass jars

Just wondering about the lids

Probably can keep them on and put them at the recycling banks

kitty88uk How strange. I just checked my local council and this Is what It reads:

Box one (green)

plastic including all white, clear, coloured or opaque plastic packaging

metal including foil, tins, cans, lids from jars, tin trays and empty aerosols

paper including newspaper, magazines, catalogues, white or coloured paper, but excluding brown paper which goes with cardboard in box two.

Sorry I forgot:

Box two (black or green)

all types of cardboard (flattened), including brown paper

cartons including Tetra Paks (wash and squash)

glass bottles and jars (rinse and make sure they are visible in your box and not in plastic bags)

I always wash out glass bottles and jars for bottle banks. The lids go into the blue bin for recycling. I find my food bin has reduced to only one bag of rubbish every fortnight. Recycling bin is full to the top so I’m doing everything right.

Jackscot Homemade jam sounds delicious 😋

Yeah they do come in handy to store items!

If you think about it why waste money buying jars when you can reuse the ones you get when you buy cooking food 🍲 sauces, honey 🍯 etc!!
