Japan Bans Electric Ride Suitcases in Tokyo Due to Missuse

In the News

It is bad enough having to contend with electric scooters darting about everywhere causing havoc

Now we have electric suitcases to contend with

At the moment they are confined to the likes of Japan and Asia and are supposed to be just used in the airports

But one Chinese woman in Japan has already been fined for using one on a public sidewalk , not because it is illegal , but because she wasn't wearing the relevant safety equipment and did not have a driving licence !!

And they are not slow, they can travel up to 13 km per hour, just look at one going full pelt in the video

Now Japan is clamping down on their use because of incidents as mentioned above

All people had to worry about before were the wheels jamming on their cases now they need to watch out they don't get hit by a luggage lout

I remember the old series ' man in a suitcase', if they had a remake it would be 'man on a suitcase'

Have seen these in Selfridges and though it looks fun, there’s really no need for such contraptions

I remember and still have suitcases in my loft that do not have wheels. We had to carry our suitcases, can you imagine that today!

eyeballkerry Don't get rid of them E, they will probably be collectable in the near future

The next generation will probably compare them to the first mobile phone 😀

telmel I use them to store stuff in the loft plus when we move they will come in handy for packing stuff up.

Electric scooters are a menace where I am. We've had serious accidents with them but people still use them without helmets and to top it off illegal where I am but the police don't do anything about it

telmel Just over a year ago a 15 year old was riding his scooter in our village on the main road that goes through it and he was hit by a car and killed.

eyeballkerry we've had a few have serious accidents and other just use term without helmets. On pavements and roads. I won't get out the way of those pavements same as cyclists I actually go out my way to get in their way mainly cos I have the attitude of why should they force the elderly, disabled and kids or parents pushing prams into a road

PMSL I now have a crazy image in my head of Japanese folk racing around on these suitcases, skidding around corners, crashing into things and knocking them flying and ending up in a heap of arm, legs all stuck out of a mountain of these things. Whatever next LOL Image

HEDGEHOGS haha 😆 I know what you mean! It’s like it always happens! My family had a few of their suitcases 🧳 all of a sudden the handles snapped! But they still use the trolleys to carry them always full when they came home lol 😝

PhilipMarc A lot of airports have moving walkways to assist you getting to terminals that are far away

Lets hope they don't make these redundant in place of these motorised suitcases , it would save them a lot on maintenance and electricity if they did
