How Do You Keep Fit?
Ask a Question
What are everyone's favourite ways of trying to keep trim and physically healthy? Running? Swimming? Pilates? Walking?
I have never been to a gym and I hated P.E in school though I did like it when we had dance and swimming
Currently I'm just trying to get back into yoga style gentle exercises and walks. I've bought an adult skipping rope but I've only used it a few times so yeah
Last week I did a charity walk and Mr Motivator was our warm up instructor and I have to say it was great fun. I feel like if you're in a big group it boosts wellbeing and makes it more enjoyable.
I’d let my exercise routine slip and my physical and mental health really went downhill.
I’m now back on it thanks to using an app called Fiit which has a variety of different workouts. I’m trying to lose a bit of weight so I’m doing mainly HIIT sessions atm but I’ll go onto strength training later.
I also go surfskating with my partner and that is great exercise. I think it’s always important to do something you really enjoy and then it doesn’t feel like a chore.
I want to get into skipping after seeing the amazing things you can do. Check out Lauren.Jumps on instagram for inspiration. She turned a hobby into a career!
I do a 7 mile walk on Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
And then dog walks make up the rest.
Plus, I tend to leave the car behind nowadays if a destination is walkable in about half an hour.
I don't drive, so I walk almost everywhere. I've just started using a pedometer and found I'm doing around 25000 steps on a busy day.
Nadiaparveen it's surprising how quickly it adds up. The school run alone is about 5,000 if I do the morning and afternoon I hit 10,000 easy.
I like to walk a lot but i find the best way for me is to make sure I am active at work. Most days i clock up between 15k & 20k just at work
Nadiaparveen yeah it’s a good life hack i find because it makes the day go quicker and I’m getting fitter
I use the biscuit app to keep motivated and i walk wherever possible, and sometimes i do yoga i do try to eat healthy to. not always very disciplined tho!
I walk, jog & I try to get over 40-45 miles in a week on my FIT BIT cos I want to be a FIT BITCH!!
Nadiaparveen ...I don't like gyms but I'm 60 in less than 2 years so making sure I try to keep as fit as I can...
Use it or loose it is my mantra along with Everything in moderation for treats/ alcohol..
I need to lose weight. I find it difficult sticking to a exercise routine which is for me why I'm overweight I don't get enough exercise. But I've got Agoraphobia so going out is difficult. I've got a exercise bike but don't use as much as I should.
KAW18 Aww it's okay you're not alone it's hard to conjure up the motivation when you don't have time, are tired or just not in the mood but maybe you can start off small like say 10 mins on the bike per day and then gradually building it up.
Some people find fitness/health apps to be a great source of inspiration. Remember housework is exercise too .. you can play your favourite music and do a little jiggle as you wash up the dishes.
Nadiaparveen Thanks. It's just difficult because my ex partner who I still live with isn't working at the moment and I don't like exercising when he's around. Your right about housework it is a good way to lose weight but when my ex is around he doesn't like me doing anything. He just goes on and on at me to stop doing what I'm doing until I do. Hopefully he goes back to work soon then I can do what I want.
I absolutely love walking, so everyday I do ten thousand steps which can go up to thirty thousand on a good day. I also have four paid walking apps which help. If the weather is really bad then I do Zumba indoors.
eyeballkerry I usually get to 10,000, how do you get to 30,000. That's amazing. I use for aswell, sweatcoin. Winwalk. Weward and cashwalk . Are they the ones you use aswell
SalmaS I use love walking, so will walk to work sometimes, walk to town both a fair distance. I stopped using sweatcoins never heard of Winwalk, is that any good? I also use Macadam.
eyeballkerry I do think sweatcoin is a waste of time. Winwalk is ok, takes fairly long if you're just relying on points through walks. But ok if you play games and take surveys. Have seen macadam but never got it, is it any good?
SalmaS I have been using macadam for a while now, I have 14300 points which converts to nearly £7.50. Not the best walking app but it all adds up when you use the others.
This subject worries me a lot as I have very little willpower when it comes to exercise. Only a week to retirement which means no more carrying heavy babies in cradles, jumping in and out of vehicles all day, walking to and from destinations etc. I keep telling myself I must start walking but doubt if I will!
Mainly walking, although since I have gone back to work I haven't gone for a walk at all. I do a lot of walking at work but still not as much as I used to.
