Key Ingredient in Energy Drinks Could Add on YEARS to Your Life
In the News
After all the bad publicity about energy drinks, scientists are saying they could extend your life by several years , up to 10%
There is a chemical found in it called taurine which is an amino acid naturally found in meat, fish and our bodies
When trialled on mice it was found they not only lived longer but looked healthier
There is a lot to be looked at , especially any long term effects , and the experts are warning against people rushing out to feast on the drinks in the meantime
I can see the likes of the 'prime' drinks cost going through the roof now

Maybe so but this has to be measured against the palpitations, fainting and even heart problems caused by these drinks, as has been found to be the case, especially in children.
My other half has 3 or 4 monsters a day I'm sick of telling him to stop drinking them but what do I know
I don't tend to have energy drinks except in this hot weather while in Wetherspoons I had a Monster Mango Loco which they supply the can with a large glass of ice and I also ask for a free soda water to go with it and tend to mix them as the Mango Loco is a bit too sweet for me. I noticed that has taurine in it. Most of the year I just go for hot drinks in Wetherspoons. I'm normally driving so can't have alcohol not that I drink much alcohol anyway.
As probably pointed out the taurine needs to be in drinks without high caffeine concentrations. I'd rather there was a similar caffeine free drink.
BonzoBanana Lets hope they can find a way to take the taurine without caffeine B, it would be the elixir of youth
Imagine how expensive it would be though, i guess only celebrities and people very well off would be able to afford it
Taurine is fairly cheap as it just comes from meat and fish. I guess they concentrate it a bit more to make supplements etc. It maybe one of those things they can synthesise or produce in a vegan way anyway. This looks to be vegetarian friendly.
I can see this being sold out at holland and barrett now B after people read this
It will give prime drinks a run for their money
If you don't have a heart attack before? Taurine may help extend life but those drinks can have serious affects on your heart I think. Its a health debate we should be having.
I watched an interesting documentary on aspartame recently where mice were found to end up with numerous cancers a result. Its so often found in diet and zero sugar drinks which are classed as healthier but really aren't!
Midnightflower I have stopped taking sweeteners because of this M, the problem is manufacturers still put it in their diet drinks and products , so you either go back to full sugar and gain weight and chance diabetes, or just dont drink the likes of diet coke etc , the only safe option being water , but how much do you trust water from the tap ?
And researchers say bottle water contains excessive bacteria
It seems every product you try to not gain weight has a downside and you only find out about it years later after taking it
telmel I think it's ridiculous that their still allowed to sell it and then there's a sugar tax on drinks without it. It just doesn't make sense. Bottled water is also considered a issue due to the bottle being plastic, so your totally right, you just can't win. Unless your fortune to have your own spring maybe?
