Should Kids Be Allowed to Take off Their Blazers?

Ask a Question

Should kids be allowed to take off their Blazers? 🌞

During the hot weather I've heard a few people saying that their kids aren't allowed to take off their blazers on a really hot day 'because it's part of the uniform'

It depends if the school is airconditioned or not and or what the blazers are made of I think

Auntielettie I don't really know of any air conditioned schools, just windows and doors open on a hot day which can let warm in if the air outside is warmer.

SamGoodship certain rooms in our school have air conditioning, like the rooms with all the computers in them. AmaIngly enough I was told it was too cold with the air con on the other day.

This is what really annoyed me about school, there’s rules which are just stupid. I’m sure the teachers will be just in their shirts and it’s not as if the kids are in their own clothes under their blazers.

I remember at my school we had to stand any time a teacher entered the classroom which was half the time counter productive cause you would be in the middle of work.

I suffer in the heat and even as a child I hated it. I guess it will take a child to collapse before they change this dangerous rule. I would much sooner they ban make up, skirts that barely cover bum cheeks and mobile phones rather than make children suffer and therefore unable to concentrate.

This is absolutely ridiculous. This has never happened to any of my children but if it did I know I would be straight up the school complaining.

My son's secondary school let's them take their blazers off, they just have to arrive at school wearing one. It does get rather hot and stuffy in those classrooms x

Absolutely, it's ridiculous that schools are dictating blazers should be worn in this heat.

Of course they should, if you are at work if you have a uniform and it has layers like that, of course you should be able to take a layer off. If the uniform isn't suitable in hot weather then they should change the uniform! But they did that when I was in the middle of the school year and we had to buy all brand new. So maybe change it for the new comers, let the older kids grow out of theirs before having to change.

They complain children don't pay attention or tired, grumpy teenagers, if you don't allow them to have a bottle of drink, go to the toilet or to take off their extra layers, of course they are going to be tired!

We had to wear black socks to our normal lessons but white to for PE... I got a detention for wearing a pair of red socks one day - seriously checking underwear! You couldn't even see them, it was only because I had PE and no shoes on. 🤨

I've had kids come to class in their PE shorts before, whatever keeps them cool so they aren't complaining is fine with me.

Ridiculous that they have to keep them on at all times. Very few places of work force you to wear a blazer over a shirt. I work in education and hate this rule

Why not in the warm weather, local Comp near me allows children to wear their PE kits when it's warm, black shorts and a blue T shirt with the school emblem on , they are all dressed the same and look

tidy but casual .

I remember this was an issue when I was in high school and we didn't like wearing blazers in general but especially not in the summer heat .. plus ours was black in colour which absorbs heat more

They can usually take it off in class just need to wear in between classes. They should be able to leave home in extremely hot weather

I think if they are too warm then yes. I knew someone in school who suffered from epileptic seizures and was told by her neurologist that stress and heat could be factors to causing a seizure so yes I wouldn't mind students taking their blazers off on a hot day.
