King Charles bans cats from rented house near Sandringham, is that fair ?

Ask a Question

You could rent a village home from the King - as long as you don't have a cat.

That's the condition if you want to rent a property King's Sandringham estate in Norfolk

So there will be no cats curling up in front of the open fire

But dogs are allowed !!

It might seem a bit unfair but there is a valid reason

Elizabeth II brought in the ban over fears pets would prey on game bird chicks that breed on the 20,000-acre estate

That seems logical until you realise that the birds would eventually be shot

Also rather than bringing in birds and releasing them to be shot, royal shooters target pheasants which have bred in the wild, which in this case are those chicks !!

So instead of being targetted by cats they will be dodging bullets, that seems fair enough, NOT!

I think landlords have a right to impose rules on their letting properties, that’s it.

Pjran Only this one allows the game birds to be shot reasoning that the cats will get there first before the bullets P, so justifying banning them , dogs, no problem

telmel yes I did read the above and it did make me smile. I’ve never ever heard of that reasoning to ban a cat 😂

Pjran Me neither P , i am a dog person myself but still think it is hypocritical of them when the birds are toast one way or the other

It a bit pompous isn't it and very entitled. We can't all have the luxury of demanding that our neighbours only have certain pets!

They have the right to ban cats but not to shoot them.

Don't think I'd like to live where shooting allowed

Imnotcheap It's the birds they shoot I, but don't want the cats chasing and killing the game birds before they do , at least it's natural behaviour for a cat , not natural for humans to shoot birds and animals for fun though

telmel I know they wouldn't intentionally shoot anything but birds would just make me anxious

People shouldn't be killing animals for sport its unnecessary and not really very sporting

His house, his rules. I have just visited sister and seen how her cat has ruined her relatively new curtains by climbing up them.

Entitled. Typical of the elite. If he said the cats have to be house cats fine because of an environmental reason wouldn't bat an eyelid. But it's the fact he does want the birds he shoots to get caught by a bird is sick
