(Stuck in Traffic )words most used by our side I think it’s not there fault these days every second day they start repairing roads especially morning time we have to leave early too.thanks for this topic 
M1321 it's funny when it's parents that are literally across the road that are late and the excuses given like traffic. You're like um you are in walking distance and in some cases we can see your house from the windows
M1321 in high school they won't accept that my daughter was told you should expect traffic and leave earlier
Imnotcheap That’s sad they shouldn’t do that anyone can stuck in traffic even Teacher too they should allow those comes from far especially on Buses don’t know 
But in primary School we do allow but not all the time same excuse work

M1321 my eldest is now in university. Younger two in primary they getting stricken now with being in on time

Thanfully we walk to school and it's quite close so we don't have to worry about traffic!
SamGoodship you’re welcome we also have School on second road behind our garden side I’m Teacher ,medical reason on leave these days ,personal experience that’s why I mentioned earlier in my comments
We were once late for school because the bus had to wait for escaped cows to be moved from the road. It wasn't questioned on arrival at school because it sounded too silly to make up
Auntielettie standard in places in the countryside. Cows escape or you get the farmer moving them from fields so no not silly
The taxi couldn't find my house well thats what I said a few times 
there was no such thing as sat nav or Google maps then.
The school was out my back gate & across the field but it was about a ten minute drive because you spent 6min just trying to get out the junction at the end of my housing estate at that time in the morning, then had to drive all the way round to get to the front 
I heard this on the news the other day and it did make me chuckle stopping at greggs is relatable on the way to work sometimes but im not sure I would if I was going to be late
HannahSunderlan I used to work at Greggs and we got so many school kids coming in for a sausage roll in the morning.
Best? I don’t know. But I recall hearing some class mates read a letter from a mother excusing her child from school as she had a ‘stomach‘ (just as well the kid wasn’t being home schooled)
hspexy ROFL I thought that about a letter my teacher friend told me about just before the summer holiday. It read "please excuse my child form being absolute as they had sickness and dizzyrea" 
being an English teacher, my friend says she wrote in red pen above the words to correct them to Absent & Diarrhea.& She said she so wanted to send the letter back with the corrections as it had annoyed her all day lol
