Do You like Where You Live?
Ask a Question
I really like where I live now. I have lived in many towns, even in cities but the village I live in now is the best place I have lived. Not the largest by any means as we downsized some years back. But perfect for us. How about you?
Yes I love where I live now. I've lived in large towns and lived half an hour outside of Edinburgh. They were where we needed to be at the time but where we are right now is perfect for us. Much more house for our money, got everything we need amenities wise and our son is happy here.
MrsCraig It is very satisfying to have found the place you like, have amenities you need around you and feel like you belong. I am glad that I am not the only one to have found it, it's a great feeling isn't it.
I should do - i have lived in my home since i was two months old- I’m now 56. I’m starting to feel a little different as they are building so many houses and the town just cant cope with it regarding schools, doctors , hospitals, dentists etc etc.
suevernon1968 That's a long time in one house which makes it sadder that it is happening around you but sadly they are doing the same thing up and down the country. The extra amenities and services that are needed when multiple builds get the go ahead, well they just don't materialise and it does make you feel differently about the area.
tumblespots they are building so much it’s affecting the flood plains (not sure if that’s the spelling). There are places that are flooding that have never flooded before. Its so sad to see the changes.
suevernon1968 Before we moved to this county we saw that they built the new harbour on a flood plain then followed that by building on marsh land near the hospital. They don't care about the country, or it's people, when they know that it is going to cause such heartache in the future. It is disgusting because they DO know about these things before starting a build.
ukheather I do feel for you, it is awful to be somewhere that you don't want to be and I hope that things do get better for you in the future.
I like parts of where i live but i also dislike parts, I feel kind of in the middle. I know there are worse places I could be living so am appreciative of my hometown, but i also do kind of wish i lived somewhere better.
jms19 When you have lived somewhere a long time you develop an affection for the place that is hard to lose even if you start to see any flaws that the place might have and it is natural to aspire to a better place.
Loved it for a while, now not so much, we have been considering moving, I think we will definitely move elsewhere in the next 2 year's
martinlufc5637 We have moved around the country a fair bit and have seen many places that we thought would suit us very well, but time changes your perception of places, and places themselves, can change sometimes beyond all recognition. I hope you find somewhere that suits you when you do move.
tumblespots we have been talking about moving to Northumberland for a while now, family and friends is the only reason we haven't gone yet
martinlufc5637 I have found that friends & family is one of the main reasons people don't move, but ultimately you have to make your own choices, perhaps if you suggested moving to them, some might want a change too?
tumblespots I'd move tomorrow but the wife keeps humming & Ar-ring, it was her idea in the first place lol
martinlufc5637 I've had that before. Mr T suggested moving, I said that would be fine, then he changed his mind.... We moved a year later and were both really glad that we had.
thepaxman That is a shame is it can be soul destroying to be forced to stay somewhere you don't like. I hope you are able to move in time.
Such a strange one for me a I love my area, been bought up here, moved away. Now I’m back in family home but think should move to somewhere smaller but doubt would happen anytime soon.
LL81 We moved to a much smaller place when we moved here, it has it's bonuses but there are also drawbacks. You have to weigh it all up and hope that you make the right decision for you.
I love where I live. It’s a fab city. I’ve even lived in the same house for 23 years. My house is in a great area, with fab neighbours
PayItForward Neighbours good or bad make such a big difference to your wellbeing, it is good to hear that you love it where you are.
I like the area and the town that I live in but I don’t like one set of inconsiderate neighbours and the house is way too small - I’m saving hard to get out of the house.
Gromit22 Neighbours have a big impact on how you feel about both your own home and the surrounding area. We all want good neighbours but sadly we don't always get them. Good luck saving up.
I like it - it's semi rural, I'm 2 minute walk from open countryside but close enough to a good selection of shops.
London is 50 minutes away on the train, as is Stanstead airport.
blacklabrador Countryside and shops accessible too, what could be better? You have it
Sheffield is THE OUTDOOR CITY..I do like living here, plenty of parks & open spaces & the Peak District on my doorstep..
Down side is inconsiderate people who don't take their litter home with them..
janphoenix51 I haven't ever visited Sheffield but I would love the Peak District on my doorstep
tumblespots ....Fond memories of working in the Peak District at Birchfield Lodge Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Hope next village to Castleton first on my YTS then got taken on...
Nice topic not really I still remember my second home put on rent few years ago whenever I go there don’t feel like coming in new house compare to that this is modern but heart still there too be honest
M1321 That's a shame, although it is lovely that you have such good memories about your other home.
I used to but as the years have gone by I’ve gradually hated it. Would love to move Somerset or Wales way personally
xKJG93 It's funny, sometimes staying in one place can make you love it more but in your case you like it less. Both Somerset and Wales have some beautiful places.
It's ridiculously expensive where I live. It's beautiful but there's nothing to attract families or keep youngest where I am. I wouldn't live where I am if I were young I'd be gone
Jerseydrew Sadly, it would seem that a lot of towns and cities are dying and don't have facilities to keep the youngsters interested.
I have mixed feelings about where I live. I don’t let my 12 and 13 year old walk to the shop alone as it’s not the safest. I am trying to move away from the city but prices of rental properties are soaring
TazMoonbeam The country has become such a dangerous place, I am not surprised that you don't want your children out alone. It's a sad reflection of the state of things today. I hope that you get to move somewhere more suitable in time.
tumblespots thank you. The children miss out on so many learning and life skill opportunities simple things like going to a shop and buying milk, bringing the change home. I trust my kids to do this but it’s the problems they encounter going to and from.
I like where I live, but don,'t like the constant development around me, every green space seems to be taken up with new housing development now and everywhere is getting so congested.
Mango4 That's happening countrywide and nobody likes it. I personally find it really depressing that all our green spaces are being built on, especially as we are an island and haven't got enough farmland to produce sufficient food for the population as it is
SaveMeSunday It's funny you should say that, we are rural but have also noticed a lot more fireworks that usual this last week. Perhaps it is countrywide as people are trying to add a bit of fun to their lives?
We used to like where we lived. We have been here over twenty years but it is now time for a change. Once our son moves out we are moving.
eyeballkerry I can't imagine spend all my life in one place, we have moved several times over the years. I hope you impending move is straightforward and goes smoothly.
I live in Yeovil in Somerset and Yeovil is probably not the nicest town in Somerset and a bit run down in places but generally I like it but what I really like is the location, lots of beautiful countryside and beaches are nearby. I quite like my house but its not in the state I want it to be, needs a fair bit of investment updating it. When I think about where else I would like to live it is not that far away. I think I would like to live nearer to Bournemouth, perhaps somewhere half way between Bournemouth and Weymouth. So probably only want to move about 25 miles from where I am but would like a house in the countryside. I am happy I managed to get a mortgage years ago as the price of rental now is ridiculous with approaching 40% of families in rented accommodation and expected to reach 50% in the next 10-15 years. So I'm happy to own my home even if it does need some work. Renting seems a financial nightmare nowadays in many areas.
BonzoBanana I think most towns are run down these days as there doesn't seem to be much investment our High Streets. I believe that more tourists are attracted to Bournemouth and it is far busier than Yeovil.
I don't like my town, or even my street, but it is quiet and never had any trouble close by. However I love my home, it has everything I need and when I close the door I don't care about outside.
Lynibis It is a great thing to close the door and shut the rest of the world out
