Admittedly, landline phone doesn't get much use these days, but it's still sad that they're discontinuing and replacing it with internet/digital instead.
Was good knowing ya, buddy.

We already have a digital connection for our landline.
If we lose power for any reason the phone is completely useless.
We do have mobile phones but they aren't smart phones and are not connected to the internet.
I believe that other older villagers don't have mobile phones and would be really at risk in the event of a power failure as they would be unable to contact anyone.
This new digital age is detrimental to those who aren't up with the latest technology which usually means the older generation who can be isolated enough already....

I got rid of my landline years ago as we never used it. My mum however, who doesn't have Internet/WiFi/Broadband or a smartphone, relies on it.

I suppose we will save some money by not paying rental for the line plus internet connection. My brother doesn’t have a landline or pay for internet just a mobile which shares the internet, dongle I think it’s called.

Seems a backward step with regard emergency calling. I keep a old style phone about in case my power goes down and there is an emergency. This pretty much means everyone now will need a mobile and mobile contract either monthly or pay as you go. If you are elderly and need a more simple phone then I guess we will need freestanding phones which take a mobile sim and have a reasonable rechargeable battery so always available in an emergency. It's utterly pointless relying on a broadband based phone in an emergency, i.e. no power. The simplicity of the old style phone network meant high reliability and simple phones that rarely failed this will probably cost extra lives a year. Also when you factor in as we become a poorer country and services like the NHS are cut back it adds another layer of failure to getting emergency help. If you are struggling to make a call with a life threatening condition then that is more critical time lost.

I have not used a landline for more years than I can remember, I don't have a landline phone and have no idea what the number is (despite having a number attached to broadband). Hopefully it does reduce broadband costs where it's now becoming defunct. I do however feel sorry for those people that don't want the internet and need just a phone so hopefully something can be sorted for that

We got rid of our landline when my son was little as he kept hiding the handset. I can see that being a problem for people who have a lifeline attached to their landline
