What's the Best Way to Lose Weight?
Ask a Question
I want to know what peoples best way they lost weight. Wether that’s a diet or exercise or both. I really need some inspiration.
TIA
If I personally did that, a travel by car that takes 5mins would become 30min-60min.
And of course, I couldn't carry anything heavy.
Exercise might help a bit but really its down to eating less or being careful with what you eat.
I have a diet plan that is impossible to not lose weight on. Basically you set a weight loss goal like 5Kg and you stop eating until you have lost 5Kg. Might take a week to 2 weeks to achieve that weight loss.
I lost over 3 stone and I did it through diet and exercise. I ate less so I was only eating between 1200-1500 calories a day and then exercising too. Once you have lost it you need to keep it off. I found that setting myself a goal helped. I didn't set a time limit on getting there, just how much I wanted to lose.
For me it’s eating a healthy diet with nutrient rich foods to fuel my workouts. Eat enough protein and don’t cut carbs, as you need a balance of these plus fats in your diet.
As others have said you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, but don’t do crash diets. Don’t buy into diet foods as they’re expensive and won’t make you fill full.
Patience and consistency is the key as the weight isn’t gained “overnight” so it won’t be lost that quickly either.
Good luck!
I lost a significant amount of weight (7 stone in 14 months) back in 2015-2016 and I found that what worked for me was inserting little bits of exercise to my day. For example if i went shopping i parked as far away as possible, i went down every aisle in each shop etc. I did used to walk a lot each day as a form of exercise as well.
I also removed temptation from my house by not having much high calorie things around.
For myself it was about momentum, once i lost a little bit of weight and got fitter that was a big encouragement.
Lots of GP practices offer sensible diets. Our practice even offered gym sessions free, not sure if this is still available. Might be worth trying to get a telephone appointment to discuss with them.
Simply eating less and moving works
To lose weight, you need to eat and drink fewer calories than you burn. You should put your body in a calorie deficit.
You can easily find tools to help you calculate how many you need online.
If your just starting out, and don't want to work stuff out and calorie count.
Just start eating fewer high sugar high fat snacks & meals. Bulk out meals with more vegetables and salads to curb hunger.
I did it by eating one meal a day, between 5.30 to 7.30 and after 2 or 3 days I didn't even feel hungry until evening. I found if I ate earlier in the day it sort of opened the flood gates and I then kept snacking all day.
I now eat something small around 10.30 to 11am and then the evening meal. I would stick my neck out and say that most adults do not need to eat more than twice a day but not sure what a doctor would say to my method.
Lynibis That is a great way of losing weight. People think fasting is bad for you but all the science shows it can be massively beneficial to your body especially fighting cancer. When you fast your body goes into autophagy mode which means the body consumes the damaged cells and proteins within the body. Such cells are often cancer forming. A fasting diet doesn't have to be multiple days although perhaps some of the benefits don't kick in until 3 or 4 days of fasting. A day where you only eat once and the other 23hrs is fasting is very good for the body. It also prevents insulin resistance.
I know why I gain weight and that is because I eat large quantities of stupid food. When I'm being sensible and avoiding processed foods especially sugar based the weight is fairly easy to lose.
However I live for food I must admit so my weight loss is very erratic. Eating smaller portions has never worked for me as I want to eat more but fasting is easier for me. My great weakness is bread, loaded with calories and a terrible processed food. I reckon if I could stop eating bread that would be half the battle but I love it.
BonzoBanana my mum has type 2 diabetes and she’s found intermittent fasting has really helped her control it and lost weight too.
snoogans888 From what I understand losing weight and intermittent fasting could ultimately reverse type 2 diabetes. I've seen type 2 diabetes described as an allergy to modern processed sugars so if she can get her sugars from fruits and vegetables rather than processed food that could be hugely beneficial. Exercise is also beneficial to reversing type 2 diabetes too.
BonzoBanana if personal experience counts for anything my doctor seemed amazed at my results. After doing the one meal a day for a while my sugar levels went from 58 to 47 plus I lost another stone on top of the two I had previously lost.
This was so good that he told me I could stop the metformin (1 per day) if I maintained that level. Will hopefully see him again soon.
I have a friend who eats constantly through the day, always popping something in her mouth. Her levels are in the 50s but she is not concerned even though she takes 4 metformin per day!
A treadmill would help, but they're not cheap so check out if you have a gym nearby.
I ordered an electric treadmill for £130 and says it'll be delivered between July 25 to August 11 as it's coming from China.
