Man Charged with $10 Million Streaming Music Scam Using AI-Generated Songs

Other

We all now realise the damage AI can do to people , it is so realistic they tend to believe everything they see

It can influence politics for example , and now it is affecting the music industry

Cyber criminals are creating songs using AI and uploading them to streaming websites

They then get fake listeners known as bots to stream the music and generate profit from the royalties.

The experts say it is raking in billions

The article shows this happening in America, but i doubt it will just be there, it could happen all over the world including in the UK

I think this type of thing is just the tip of the iceberg and we will see more of these type of scams happening as time goes on

I suspect advertisers will stop advertising on such sites so there is no royalty income anyway in the end. Maybe we will get more robot testing on streaming sites so you have to keep proving you are human which could get annoying. I'm terrible for not generating advertising income as I use a advert blocker on youtube and also download music from youtube as mp3s using online mp3 downloader web pages. I don't think I've bought any music for at least 10 years or more although a lot of that is simply I'm more into older music which I already have. I've listened to some AI generated music and you can hear it is very similar to normal commercial music sometimes so feels wrong anyway that such sites can generate income from it from advertising. Youtube is full of copyrighted material that shouldn't be there that they are generating income for themselves from too. Just feels like a huge can of worms when it comes to copyright infringement. In this instance the music hosting company is making money but the advertisers are being ripped off unless these scammers are paying for subscriptions but this is easily offset by how much royalty payments they receive.

Randy Travis had a song made using an AI voice very close to his, so while AI was used for good in that circumstance, but most are for nefarious reasons.

Even at the airport I don't like doing the biometric/face recognition and there are employees right there to do it in person.

I will make millions of mini simulations of me and drive everyone crazy singing out of key everywhere all day.Seriously though as someone who writes and plays music I find A1 a serious threat to natural creativity.
