Man Named by His Wife as the BBC Presenter involved in scandal

Huw Edwards named as BBC presenter accused of paying teen for explicit pictures
The veteran news anchor was named in a statement released by his wife which also said he was suffering from 'serious mental health issues'.
She said her husband was "suffering from serious mental health issues" and is now "receiving in-patient hospital care where he will stay for the foreseeable future" as she asked for privacy for her family.
Yup and the police have said there's nothing to investigate so why has it be made out to be a big thing? Same happened to Philip Schofield life in tatters
Leannexxx i guess in both cases people could argue that we pay the license fee so it’s in the public interest for us to know.
I respect people’s right to a personal life but i think in this country we hate people who put forward a false image like these 2 clearly did.
I agree Schofield’s case was possibly sensationalised but the thing that makes me very uneasy is the fact he reportedly knew the person he had a relationship with since he was a teen and had helped him get a job etc. That’s what makes it dodgy imo.
Leannexxx i mean he only came out and spoke about it after it had been exposed and he really had no choice.
If he didn’t do anything wrong then he’s paid a costly price for doing something unwise. Unfortunately when you’re in the public eye and you go to such lengths to hide it people will assume you are guilty of wrongdoing.
There are tons of celebrities who’s partners are much younger so it wouldn’t have been a scandal at all based on that.
jms19 I think they didn't say anything about it about there both married I think it wrong what they have done but I think it's also wrong that it's like a witch hun because they have a personal life doesn't matter what it is everyone what's to know about it as I've said before I believe they should put the age up to 18
SilverSurfer That was my thought too. Couldn't have Rishi questioned on that during the presidential visit/NATO summit eh!
Obvious for days who it was. Sounds like he's potentially tried to hurt himself.
Seems nothing has been learnt from previous witch hunts.
Imnotcheap I agree to a point but even one of them said it's not true it's he mum telling lies they haven't spoken in years
Imnotcheap yup the wife and kids are just as much a victim as the family and young person involved. If huw is the one that did this no sympathy from me as someone who works with kids I don't have the time or patience for stuff like this
Leannexxx I have concerns over that mothers story but the child will have a bad time either way
Jerseydrew I have three children and we all try to protect them from evil. We don't yet know who is a victim just the families or Huw too
Jerseydrew but hes not broken any laws yeah I do believe it's wrong as I would still see them as kids it's mind boggling that you have to be 18 to drink and smoke but look 25 to buy them and yet the age of sex is 16 I don't get it
Why did she bother to name him if they both wanted privacy? I am very sorry to hear about his health but I do not think his mental health issues matches explicit pictures taken years ago. Huw Edwards was exposed by some devious person(s) who intended to inform the media and only The Sun newspaper fell for the bait.
jam45 maybe because of the hassle that the likes of Jeremy vine is getting which isn't fair on them either
Schofield was the highest paid ITV presenter and Huw Edwards was the highest paid BBC presenter...say no more...hope the SUN get taken to the cleaners...
I was surprised. But it's not a crime I don't agree with what he's done. But it's not a crime so should it be made public. I really feel for his family it's going to have a really bad effect on them.
Good on his wife for reporting him buy I would never have guessed it would have been him!!!
All of this started by The Sun - who paid 16 year olds to pose topless on page 3. Quite how they are now our moral guardians I dont know. All of this has been more about bashing the BBC. They dont care about Huw and his family ,and they dont care about the young person involved. The whole thing is nasty.
didbygraham well said! I find it ridiculous that the sun is pretending to have any morals when they've printed 16 year old girls topless.
This whole thing is messy. First heard a mum was outraged her teen sold explicit pictures to a BBC presenter for a lot of money. Didn’t know if boy or girl, not sure it matters. Then hear it’s to fund teen’s drug habit. Then they were under 18 so pictures were a possible crime. Even though sex is legal at 16 here. Then more allegations, then teen says it’s all rubbish. Teen estranged from mum and dad. Now investigation by police say no crime was committed? This was some time ago as I heard teen is around 20 now. Even if it’s all true it’s between the mum, teen and presenter, private lives made very public. I don’t know what to think. Why is teen on drugs, does mum want a piece of the money by going to bbc, papers, etc. Presenter may be sleazy but not criminal and possibly really does have mental health problems. I see all sides and it’s very damaging to everyone involved.
What Huw Edwards gets up to in his private life is his business, he’s not broken any laws. We should question the parent’s motives going to the press, did they get paid?
Clearly we don't know everything yet BUT he presents the news and expects us to have faith in him and his news and yet he shows that he has absolutely no personal moral compass! What sort of a role model is this?
No doubt the BBC will do yet another cover up and don't forget that TV licence payers foot the bill for all of this by paying their enormous wages as well as the costs of all the investigations that they have to keep instigating. The BBC is broken, has been for a long time and should be scrapped.
tumblespots and who gains the most from the break up of the BBC? One Mr Murdoch, who just happens to own, among other things - The Sun. What an amazing coincidence.
I really don't want anything to do with stuff like this would sooner not know, says she making a comment. But I don't regard this as being in the public interest, not necessary for us to know unless vulnerable people are at risk.
It's no doubt a smokescreen generated by the BBC to hide a massive story about the government or a member of the Royal family
comriegold Like government not handing in unredacted whatsapp messages as requested & ruled by court?
The only thing I’m confused about on this is that if the person was a minor is there not some kind of law been broken ?
