Man Skipped Work for 6 Years and Was Only Found out after He Was to Win an Award

Other

You might have skipped the odd day at work over the years with an excuse for being ill or because of a dentist appointment

But how about not attending work for 6 years but still getting your full pay ?

This is what this person in Spain was doing when nobody thought to check on him

And he wasn't a low paid worker , he was a building supervisor for a water treatment plant earning nearly £32,000 a year

He went undiscovered for so long as two different departments thought he was working for the other

They only found out he had been missing when they wanted to give him a 20 years long service award

He didn't get prison, he was just asked to pay back about £22,000 , which is less than one years pay

So he got off pretty lightly , but he still had a cheek to refute the penalty

Maybe he should have took time off on the sick and blamed his conviction ?

That reminds me of someone I heard of who 'worked' for a British car company but was never there and I am sure he wasn't the only one!

tumblespots I think politics had a lot to do with it T, like the miners and steelworkers , look what is happening with them now down in South Wales , it is not their fault, it is a decline in production and too many imports , beside poor management by the owners and government

Yes there are probably shirkers, they exist everywhere, but its hard to generalise and blame anyone in particular

I bet there is more of it amongst white collar workers than anywhere else , you cannot leave machinery unattended in industry , but you can the desk

It probably happens more often than it's known.

Here's another one:

If only journalists did the same investigative work about the government. Of course not, that's going too far.

PhilipMarc Another hard faced person who didn't care and got away with any sort of punishment

P, it just sends a message to others to do the same if the end result is this

Jerseydrew I'm surprised the traffic light system didn't malfunction or come to a halt with his lack of maintenance

You hear about things like this happening and i can see how it does. I remember it happened at a job i was at and the manager didn’t want to confront it because it had been weeks and she hadn’t noticed so it made her look bad.
