Manicures and Pedicures

Ask a Question

I'm of a certain age where my fingernails have ridges and tend to split.. Has anyone had a manicure in one of the many salon in their high street? What does a manicure involve?? Will they be able to smooth/file all the ridges down? Tidy up my cuticles?, Shape my fingernails and maybe put a coat of polish or white tips? ... l don't want any fake nails, just my own to become healthier.

As with a pedicure.. My toenails could do with a tidy up, the cuticles need pushing back, would love my heels to be smooth and the balls of my feet and maybe a nail polish.. l also don't want any thing fake..

Are all the above the usual in a manicure and pedicure or do l have to say what l want?

I'm all new to letting someone else pamper me for once and don't want to come across as the novice (that l will be) Thank you 😊

If you pop in to your local nail salon as them to shape and buff your nails and just have normal nail polish not a gel as the uv light isn’t any good for your nails but in the meantime you could apply a cuticle oil to your nails you could as them to do the same for your toenails too. and try to wear rubber gloves for all household chores as this will help protect your nails from the cleaning chemicals

I cut my finger nails to the base.I hate long finger nails they get dirt under em and they scratch and just generally get in the way.Never been a fan of long nails.I had an ingrown toe nail once it was a major inconvenience as well.

MelissaLee1 I wonder how you would cope with nails like this lol. Many women have nails this long and it makes me wonder how they manage normal life, they must become very lazy and just sit around all day. I dread to think how they manage their bodily hygiene.

If you ask them to do those things then they will. Don't get a gel polish just a normal one.

Pinkspirit I remember getting a gel polish for my mother in laws wedding as she paid for them and my nails were ruined for weeks afterwards once I got them taken off. I won't be getting them again.

MrsCraig oh wow! Shows how naive I am l thought gel just didn't chip as much, l didn't know that gel had to be taken off and would make your own nail weak/porous. 😯

Pinkspirit it doesn't chip as much, it lasts much longer but you have to get it taken off by the nail technician and your nails will be damaged for a few weeks afterwards. I've had gels done twice, won't be doing it a third time.

I had friends who worked in the nail parlours and they used to paint/spray my nails for free. It’s lovely getting them done, but it’s a luxury I wouldn’t pay for
