How do you help someone with menopause

Other

So my mum is going through menopause and her behaviour and moods have changed alot. I've been noticing that she gets angry so easily. Happy and joking one moment. The next she'll be shouting or saying hurtful things to me. I do feel like it's stressing me out and i have started to distance myself. I obviously feel guilty for doing so but just don't know what to do. I have always been close to my mum compared to my siblings, and feel like that's why it's affecting me the most

Have you experienced menopause or know someone that has. How did you deal with it?

It’s changes in hormones. Maybe she can get treatment from doctor. Take a break for yourself and if she asks you why, just be honest with her how it makes you feel.

I going through it with my wife right. Now. And for some women it can be. A nightmare. My wife even calling herself a nightmare me and the kids are getting. It. As you say one minute she's fine the next she's. Flying off the handle. At us all. She's booked in to see the GP on Monday. For blood pressure. Check and to go on HRT pachs. Even. She works as a nurse. And others. As noticed she's losing it a bit. Get your mum to book in at the doctors to get some. Help once. She's on something. She. Find it easier to deal with it as some women can't have HRT. There's lots of natural things she can take. And there's lots what one can eat to help herself. Just have a look on Google. Good luck. Remember to support your mum. Which I know you do

jdible I've managed to get her an appointment today but it's over the phone. I know her blood pressure is high, had it checked at the pharmacy. Alot of people have recommended HRT, I've personally never heard of it. Will do my research. Thank you 😊

Firstly do not feel guilty for needing space. Your mental help is just as important. Secondly try to remember that her hurtful words are not true feelings as they are out of character.

My mum went through it when I was going through puberty, Dad said it was a nightmare in our house!

My mum found menopause very hard, she tried loads of natural treatments, which helped a little but the thing that worked was HRT.

My mother in law is currently going through the menopause, she has also said the HRT is a godsend.

Try and get her booked in to see a GP. Don't feel guilty about needing some space.

MrsCraig I've finally managed to get her an appointment, been trying for over a week. But it's a phone call, so not sure how well I'll be able to get my points across. I've never heard of HRT. I'll have a look into it . Thank you 😊

SalmaS it's a hormone replacement therapy, my mum used to wear a patch and change it every so often, but not sure if that's still how it works.

Aww hopefully she will get some help from the Doctors appointment and you'll all start to notice a difference if she gets prescribed HRT.

I think I am at the early stages, I get night sweats but due to having psoriatic arthritis I already have many pains. My family is very understanding and having rest is essential. Give your mum the space she needs and some ’me’ time.

Aww bless her and you 💕 I know someone who is going through it and I just let her vent her frustrations. She told me that changing your diet helps.

Your mum is having a lot of irritability and outbursts down to her hormones changing.. because the oestrogen has gone down .. so does serotonin.. serotonin controls moods.. so when serotonin is also down you can imagine it must be hard to control it.

Try and get her to practise breathing exercises and also take part in physical exercise as this raises serotonin levels which will improve her mood

I hope your mum is prescribed HRT. The HRT PPC costs £19.30 for 12 months.

It will cover all your eligible HRT prescriptions for that period, no matter how many different medicines you need. There’s no limit on the number of HRT prescription items you can get with it while it’s valid.
