Moon Tunnels and Caves .New Discoveries.
In the News
They have found tunnels and caves on the moon maybe big enough to set up Lunar bases one day.All rather exciting really. It is thought to be up to 80 metres long, 45 metres wide and between 130 and 170 metres below surface.
This stuff always amazes me, just imagining the possibilities of moon colonies perhaps in our lifetime we will look up to the moon at night and see the lights of an off-world colony. These tunnels and caves provide extra protection against micro meteorites. Hopefully at some point a AI lunar robot will go up there and map these tunnels and caves and we can explore them in virtual reality.
BonzoBanana Hardly comparable but the house I grew up in had a cellar as big as the upstairs. There was a set of wooden steps leading down from our hallway.I had a lotta fun exploring all the dark and dusky rooms where things had been stored and abandoned from times past. There is something fundamentally fascinating about caves and cellars albeit that I wouldn't want to live permanently below ground like a morlock lol.
MelissaLee1 Wow it sounds like you grew up in some sort of Victorian mansion or something. In the states I see so many people have large basements but I've never lived in a house that had one. I can't think of anytime I've gone into a basement except I knew someone in Portsmouth who bought a large house and rented it as student accommodation and turned the basement into his own flat which I went into but it was just a flat at that point and apart from the tiny windows only at the top of the wall just looked like a normal flat. I feel like I've missed out on something, exploring a basement as a child.
BonzoBanana The chap who owns it now owns the whole house and has turned that basement into a very des res indeed.Rents were raised and mumsy got rehoused into a much smaller place.
telmel The clangers ate all the cheese T.Shurely you knew that.Or was that another blue planet? I'm ever so confused.
MelissaLee1 Lucky the soup dragon came to their rescue with a hot liquid meal for all of them when they ran out of cheese.
I am not massively into space but I can't imagine we are the only planet with life form on it. We can't be. I know some think we are but I can't see how
Jerseydrew I was watching a video earlier today from a scientist saying they have discovered a signal that must be from another alien civilisation but they don't have the resolution to really analyse it yet but the patterns are non-natural. The necessary equipment to analyse the signals with greater accuracy are coming, they are linking all radio telescopes so they operate as one unit and are developing AI routines to monitor the signal and try to decipher them. There has been huge additional funding to do this. So hopefully perhaps within 10-20 years we should have evidence of another technological civilisation. As far as I understand there is only one such signal found and they are concentrating on this source initially. The situation is its not impossible that it is a natural source of signal but extremely unlikely so they have to do further research to confirm its from an alien technology that is generating these signals. It was described as a possibly stray signal just like our past TV broadcast signals rather than a signal purposely designed to go into space and for the attention of other alien civilisations so extremely low power. This could indicate a alien civilisation with a similar technological age to ourselves.
Jerseydrew Inclined to agree with you. It's rather vain of us to assume that in an unending universe that we are the only ones.
MelissaLee1 exactly it's vain to think that. People assume if there is live they would be more advanced then us and come to us. They maybe more advanced then us. As BonzoBanana said they maybe the same as us. They may have been able to see what we've done tk our planet and gone nope Nit going there
Jerseydrew It maybe more advanced civilisations don't have technology that sends signals into space but has less wasteful communication that is more efficient so basically our civilisation is only capable of finding civilisations on a similar technical level. I.e. someone using a ham radio is not going to receive smoke signals from a native american fire.
BonzoBanana true there's that. So many possibilities. It's never ending. It's interesting really.
Can't be true...as the earth is flat and space doesn't exist lol I watched a Facebook video earlier from these flat earth people, it made me chuckle
martinlufc5637 I think people aren't getting the grounding in science like they used to. It seems like the world is getting a little more insane as people get their information from social media more and more and reject what they don't like. Sometimes I overhear conversations and I questioned the ability of that person to think in a logical common sense way. Lots of religious people choose their sources of information very carefully so it doesn't conflict with their believes.
I think they should leave well alone. When an untouched area in our universe is first explored there can be unknown dangers from substances, diseases etc. Who knows what they will find or propoganda will blame on these tunnels.
