BA Plane Passenger had to be hoisted from first class seat after getting stuck

In the News

It never rains but it pours for BA , this time it wasn't strikes or delays , but a passenger jammed in a first class seat

They had to hoist the poor man out after removing a cabin door

They decribed him as 'Volumetric' , another word for overweight

What was surprising is this was one of the most spacious seats they have

They said he enjoyed the food, wine and comfort of the £7,000 suite , but he must have over indulged to become wedged so tight

Thank goodness it wasn't an economy airline, they probably would have flown upside down until he fell out

Jerseydrew Yes , an awkward situation all round J

It wouldn't surprise me if the airlines introduced a seat sizer as they do with the luggage , to ensure everyone can fit comfortably in the seats before the flight

The alternative is to make them bigger, the seats that is, but i doubt that is an option

It's going to become a major issue with most transportation I think. Many people are now larger and when your on small buses with small seats ect it's a nightmare as you can't fit in the seat next to them.

Midnightflower I wonder what its like for tourists that travel to other countries where the people are naturally smaller and not so tall , public toilets and seating in restaurants besides airline seating must be a problem there as well as head height with doorways etc

I know in countries such as Russia and Sweden doorways are a lot smaller , for example, but that is due to keeping out the cold

Then you have the opposite in the likes of the USA where everything is oversized

telmel I must be very difficult, I think the whole issue is very devisive, we shouldn't bully or humiliate anyone over their size, but it shouldn't be normalised either as it's not healthy and is going to have very serious consequences for our NHS and therefore effect everyone.

How terribly embarrassing. I wouldn't have the nerve to go on an airplane if I were that big, and would certainly never do it a second time. It is time we stopped all this body confidence stuff because it is not attractive or healthy to be obese and with obesity there will be problems like this.

Sorry if my comment upsets the woke brigade but I am no skinny lizzy and I do practice what I preach when it comes to weight loss.

Lynibis Being body confident doesn't remove the health issues of being overweight unfortunately so i tend to agree L

telmel too true. I am sick to death of 'big is beautiful ' because it really isn't. No one will ever convince me that obese people look good in flimsy outfits with flesh spilling out. And I have an extremely obese good friend who is the kindest, gentlest and nicest person you could wish to meet, being nice does not equate to size, some really unpleasant people are slim.

Sad but if you're getting on an aeroplane, this is unfortunately something to consider if you're considered 'volumetric'...
