Moving Location
Ask a Question
If you had the opportunity and someone gave you the chance to move location to elsewhere (UK only), house and job provided but nothing else, only family you live with move also, no other family can move and have a fresh start would you take it? If so why and where would you move to?
We moved 3 years ago from where we lived to where we are now. We didn't have any family where we were, housing etc was expensive and schools for our son weren't great. The 3 of us moved closer to my parents and it was the best decision we ever made. We are all much happier up here, have a lot more house for our money and our sons primary school is amazing. Wouldn't dream of moving again though.
This is exactly what we are trying to do. We have this opportunity to move anywhere, not just the uk. Just waiting for our son to move out and we are off to pastures new. Just don’t know where.
In a heartbeat, l have no family, would love a new location and job, l wouldn't know where in the UK to move to as have not seen much of this lovely place, wouldn't mind sea, country walks, quaint markets just a lovely community would suit me fine.
I don’t know but would love a new house. A brother and sister in law has done just that but were not ‘given’ it. They worked and inherited. I like the area I am in though and don’t want to move far from my family. If at some point though there have been some lovely properties on escape to the country programme and Cornwall is beautiful. A bit wetter than where I am though. I also don’t need acres and acres of land. A lovely little cottage and cottage garden would do me and my husband nicely. One day maybe.
JLouM understandable about working for it and think that's what's required for a lot of people. It was just sort of a hypothetical question where if someone granted you that opportunity where a house was provided and just a job, nothing else like materials, furnitire etc to take it would people take it. I'd snap it up in a heartbeat and be gone personally
I would relocate to Suffolk near the border with Essex and I would be slightly nearer to my son. I wouldn't need the job as I am retired.
Interesting to hear that a few people would take it. I would too. If someone granted me that and said there's a house and a job, there's nothing in the house furnite wise, decoration wise and you can't take a single thing other than clothes I'd be there straight away
I’d do it if it were abroad, just as I’d like a massive change in environment, but it makes no sense to do it in the U.K. as I’ve got elderly relatives and being close yet far is pointless (but being far, far is fine lol)
Absolutely, I'd love to leave Yorkshire, I've lived here all my life and it has changed so much for the worst, went to Northumberland a couple of years ago, that's where I like to live
martinlufc5637 ..I love Yorkshire, born & bred Sheffielder , 60 next year & most of my family are here & half of my long time partner's family too...The other half of his family have gone back to Northern Ireland & are very happy there, some with their Sheffield born partners/ husbands & children...
Northumberland is beautiful too but you can't beat God's Own County..
janphoenix51 I'm Yorkshire born & bred too, I never thought I'd ever want to leave, my uncle has moved to Sheffield, he's now a steward at Sheffield United, poor thing lol
martinlufc5637 ...Your Uncle must like our city to settle here & obviously Sheffield United too!
How long has your Uncle been in our great city??
janphoenix51 it's been about 4 year's, he's a massive s/united fan, he is the only one who isn't a Leeds supporter,we have disowned him
martinlufc5637 ...So has your Uncle landed his dream job at Sheffield United or has someone he knows helped him see the light!!
janphoenix51 they just pulled him off the street, because nobody wanted the embarrassment of doing it lol
martinlufc5637 ..Don't believe you for one minute, you are local rivals so bound to be jealous !!
I bet you're Uncle is loving it at Bramall Lane
janphoenix51 I couldn't tell you to be honest, he's been too busy last 12 months, picking the ball out of the back of the net lol keeps him fit
martinlufc5637 ....What prompted to Goal Keeper at the lane already so it's HIS fault Sheffield United were loosing??
You might as well have your Uncle back!!
We like where we live so no plans to move, our friends retired and moved to the seaside, hours away from their family and grandchildren but it was their choice and loving the life and sea air.
If my partner & I moved anywhere it would be to Northern Ireland..We love visiting our relatives there.
The people in Northern Ireland was soo friendly as are the people in Southern Ireland where my Dad's family are from...
I would love to live on the coast , actually somewhere you could look out and see the sea. I have friends that moved to small coastal village in Devon last February, and they reckon it's the best thing they have done.
Yes.
I'm online dating a girl and we've agreed to meet in Portugal, because I just find London far too unstable and unsafe. My plan is to leave around January/February 2025, spend sometime with her in person, and if all goes well we'll get married (at an Anglican church).
Just the other day I heard a bus recording saying "This bus is under attack call 999" and while I didn't see anything unusual or heard anything it still made me walk away from the bus stop. I didn't call the police, but there were other people at the bus stop if it was something serious than a malfunction.
